    It's Saturday, isn't it?

    Where would be a good place close to (or in) Edinburgh to watch?

    I might be constrained by time and fambly, so I was thinking about on the sea wall round the back of Seafield, or possibly up on the field at the back of the house at Newhailes. The John Muir path round from the back of the ash lagoons might be OK, but a bit low.

    So it is.

    I assumed all demolitions took place on a Sunday!

    Scouted out the sea wall near Levenhall Links the other week - good view from there, while far enough away to feel safe.

    "but a bit low"

    This was taken somewhere on that nature reserve, with a bit of telephoto. Should be good view.

    I think they should demolish the chimneys brick by brick and rebuild them atop the new St James Centre carpark. Both to pipe out the car exhaust emissions and as a monument to the folly of building a massive new car park in the city centre.

    Apologies if this information is posted elsewhere, but does anyone know what time this is happening on Saturday? If it's a clear day I hope to witness it from the comfort of my own kitchen, with the aid of a pair of binoculars.

    Thanks @amir. A little googling uncovered that information from a later BBC News item. Good - I don't need to be elsewhere at that time. I'll need to work out how long the sound is likely to be delayed...

    Now we can work out where your kitchen is...

    If only there was another set of chimneys being demolished, then we could triangulate.

    There was the Leven Power station demolition in 2011. However I suspect panyagua confirming if he used to see that from his window would narrow down the location more accurately than sound to the nearest second.

    I'm pretty sure you can see the towers from Holyrood Park. About 70% up the hill from St Margarets to Dunsapie should do the trick.

    I reckon North Bridge would be a pretty good place. They are far away but it would still look cool.

    I will miss it though as I expect to be going to the Smallholders Festival.

    @amir, @acsimpson

    You'll have to wait until Longannet goes for the triangulation. Although that will be sound only - I can't see it from my window. A wee cycle to Bo'ness will be required when that comes to pass...

    @panyagua - no need for triangulation - there's only two places that distance away that you can still see the towers, and one within reasonable cycle-commuting distance of Edinburgh.
    Or just find those Strava logs...

    @twq

    Yes - a good detective would search my posts, look for "unusual" rides/dates, and match them to my Strava records in the City Cycling Edinburgh 'club'. I've invoked the Strava feature so it doesn't record within x metres of where I live, but I'm pretty sure x is shorter than the distance sound would travel in one second, so the accuracy is comparable.

    Or you could just ask me where I live :)

    Can anyone remember what the view from the Rest and Be Thankful on Corstorphine Hill is like?

    I think you can see the chimneys but not sure how much they are obscured by Calton Hill.
