Wouldn't say chequerboard, no. there are definitely a few helmets with integrated lights these days.

Very small chequerboard 3x3 or one big walloper of a light?

Triangle of red lights. With potential for more if using the brake detector.

Triangle of red squares? That move from one position to another?

Groovy.
The one I saw waiting at cineworld was not like that.

The indicator looks good. Something I've always wanted as you can't always take your hands off the bars. But not cheap.

@rosie - the kickstarter was a lot cheaper than the retail price (at least at the time, with the then exchange rate...). I can't remember how much exactly, but I got in early and paid about what you'd expect to pay for a new helmet.
if anyone does want one, I have codes/cards for a discount, but agree, they're still pricey.

@SRD - thanks. I will think about getting one.

How do the indicators work, do you just think left or do you have to tilt your head?

I said on another thread that the indicators were only on the back, but that's wrong. The front lights are white, but flash yellow when indicating. the back has extra red lights with flash red (in an arrow) when indicating.
@gembo, there's a gizmo that sits on your handblar with buttons that you push with your thumbs.

@SRD - it does sound totally cool & is on my "want" list.
Posted 7 years ago # -
wi fi? sounds like a gizmo for gembo, though I am still indicating with my arm too, if i get one
Posted 7 years ago # -
wi fi?
Probably just infrared.Posted 7 years ago # -
aw.I don't want one if not wifi

bluetooth? everything is better with bluetooth.
Posted 7 years ago # -
yup. bluetooth. and a phone app too, which tells you if your battery is running down.

as I said, i have a discount code that will give you $25 off, if you order before the end of december.
the kickstarter deal looked a lot better last year before the pound lost all its value.
have to say, i really like it. if it holds up to rain and continued use, i'll be happy with my investment.

Bluetooth, back on again for a shot next Friday 16th at Peter's yard

Does it make a loud relay-switching ticking noise whilst indicating so that you know you're indicating?
Posted 7 years ago # -
@wingpig there are about 4 settings of different beeps from 'none' to 'constant'. and the button flashes too.

Do you have 'hazards'? Are the indicators self-cancelling?
Only joking. Can't wait to record a 'spot'.

On BentRider Online, co-editor Larry Varney has reviewed the Lumos helmet:

You may not know who Larry is. He looks like Santa Claus and is essentially Sheldon Brown's lesser known half-brother.
He definitely approves of the Lumos.
There is also a thread about it here:

Meant to report that I had my first ever rain-related Lumos malfunction on Tuesday, during the apocalyptic 5.30pm rain.
The helmet coped fine, but the wee indicator button got very confused. First it wouldn't turn on/indicate, then it wouldn't stop.
It was fine after it dried out, and to be fair, I don't anticipate it encountering similar rain very often...
