@arellcat - I am wondering the same thing. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

How fast (or slow) will the neutralised start be?

They'll knock off up the High St, round Grassmarket and out to Milton in well under 20 mins I reckon.

A legal waiver has apparently been drawn up to allow the Yorkshire police force's fleet of motorbikes with its TdF experience to have temporary jurisdiction in Scotland. They will have control of roads along with some civilian outriders that can take position once a road has been closed by police. There's are 60 bikes on duty.
The Yorkshire force are being paid by TB to do this cover. Some Police Scotland bikes with them too I would imagine.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order will be in force during the morning of Wednesday 9th September which will temporally close roads along the route in East Lothian as the race passes through. This will be achieved by "rolling road closure" coordinated by 30 Police and 30 trained civilian motorcyclists. The race is expected to enter East Lothian at approx 10:05 hrs and leave at approx 11:40 hrs. A maximum delay of up to 20 minutes (lead car to last car) could be experienced.

The evening before there is a cycle race organised by Scottish Cycling up Arthur’s Seat called ‘Mur D’Arthur’. The children that win this will then have the opportunity to lead out the ‘depart’ on Wednesday morning.

Mur d'Arthur nothing to do with Schools p6/p7 race. Entry open to all at British cycling event page but entries close Saturday.

Ha! Knew you'd know. Thanks Shuggiet. To be fair, she *really* needs to work on her hill strategy anyway.

Lothians cyclist Evan Oliphant and his former training partner James McCallum will have differing roles to play for their respective teams when the Aviva Tour of Britain gets under way in Wales tomorrow.

Oliphant lines up for Team Raleigh in the 178 kilometre opening stage from Beaumaris to Wrexham. He will be performing a support role in the eight-day event which concludes in London next Sunday. However, he will be given a free rein to challenge for individual success on Wednesday’s fourth stage from Edinburgh to Blyth.

Every cyclist in Edinburgh who can get the day off will be going to Redstone Rigg, I guess... ;-) This includes me, I'll be with Boyfriend of Fimm and some friends. It seems to be the general opinion that 8 - 8:30 is the time to start.

ARobComp - I'd like to using a non UCI bike. Arellcat did mention taking the Quest out as well.

Gembo - Have to be clear of Gifford by 10.15 I would say.

Gifford is a good hour out of Edinburgh and I've now sold my fastest bike :-(

Info from Amir's link earlier. Lead cars in Gifford at 10.57 at Rigg by 11.06. Median ride times in blue.

Depends how I'm feeling; pre-PfS and PfS has taken a lot out of my hip flexors and my left ankle. I don't think too many of those skinny carbon roadies on 23s were carrying their bedding and a change of clothes as well.

  29. I've taken the day off work and will head down to Holyrood to wander round for a look / watch the signing-on / watch the depart and then walk up towards the Commonwealth Pool area of the park to catch them coming through on the way to Duddingston.

    Quite right.

I'd been thinking about correcting most of my cycling pals on the spelling but when I saw the ToB schedule couldn't even get it right I gave it up as a bad job. Glad to see you've got more staying power than me.

The Rig will be mobbed by the sounds of things...
