Any plans to meet somewhere at 8.30 tomorrow before going east?

Will be a cold start if weather is like today. I've got review bike that needs tried out and seems like good excuse.

Think most are joining the porto-velo group.

We'll need some kind of CCE signifyer so that those in the PortoVelo ride can recognise each other!

My son and I will be heading for the Rig as well.
(probably get a lift there in the support vehicle and then cycle back.)
I had a test run out on Sunday, and decided the round trip was a bit sore on the legs for me!

Live on ITV4 from 1pm, by which time the race will be at Doddington (great cheese and ice cream there, but it's in Northumberland). I guess there may be cause to show the massed ranks of Edinburgh's lycra fetishists on the Rig in the live show introduction or on the highlights show if it makes for impressive TV.

I've rearranged a meeting so that I can go and watch the procession through the Meadows.

A colleague has contacted the Sciennes primary head teacher to ask if his cycling mad son can be let out to watch it. Apparently she was unaware it was even happening.

Likewise Europsport (from 1.15pm on Eurosport 2)

I've been much preferring the ITV coverage of the Vuelta (Boulting and Millar), But I have to say that last night Eurosport's coverage of the ToB made vastly more sense than ITV4s.

Not sure who is doing either one? Eurosport had a former rider on, who, much like Millar on the Vuelta, was able to explain and question stuff really effectively.

Bruntsfield HT said 'she'd had something in the post', and agreed to let me take my daughter out of school to see it. Turns out the schools were all INVITED to send students, but haven't told anyone. presume no teachers willing to take them?

    bah.

Not even to walk down to Links to watch them on Melville Drive?

ITV4 have Hugh Porter and Brian Smith. Hugh Porter being a venerable old codger who often seems a bit too overexcited, and Brian Smith a former pro and general manager of MTN-Qhubeka.

Haven't watched any Eurosport coverage, so not sure who they have. Matt Stephens perhaps? He's usually pretty good.

Having been restricted to just watching highlight shows of the Vuelta and ToB (life has been getting in the way of watching cycling :-( ), I've been reminded how underwhelming, confusing and rather unsatisfying they are compared to watching live coverage.

Maybe. Sean what's-his-name and the other guy doing Vuelta highlights for Eurosport drive me crazy. Can't stand to listen to them, so the ToB coverage was a revelation.

(yes, I did watch two sets of highlights last night....)

    Road closures
    4.
    Queens Drive
From Duddingston Low Road to Holyrood Gait for Northbound traffic only

They just couldn't bear to shut the urban motorway through the park in both directions. There would be TRAFFIC CHAOS.

If the other guy is Carlton Kirby I'm with you 100% - awful commentator. One of the guys who just won't shut up, even when (most of the time) he has nothing to say. He either tells you what you can already see on the screen or repeats the same old facts. Useless.

I like Sean, but he needs a decent commentator with him.

I'm beginning to worry about the route through Edinburgh.

3 areas are recipes for disaster:

#1: Holyrood Park Road - terrible surface on steep downhill section into park

#2: Low Road - again, rutted surface at steepest downhill section.

#3: Duddingston Village - huge speed bumps could cause sudden slowdown and cyclists crashing into the back of those in front.

Hopefully none of this will happen, but these are definitely not roads I would have used.

    "Neutral" until Milton Road.

Riders will know what to expect. (Maybe!)

    "Neutral" until Milton Road.

I realise that, but neutral doesn't mean 10mph, and it's a large peleton.

Update - at least one class from Bruntsfield is going down to Melville Drive, which is something.

MrSRD last seen heading in direction of Porto-velo chaingang, but running a bit late. Say hi if you see him.

Bagged myself a good spot in my favourite barbers on Laurieston Place. Hair cut and banter all sorted. Bob's barber looking after my bike in the shop.
