Saw Gembo, ARobComp et al on way out. Sitting at corner. Big bike procession. Amazing.

Been sent a close-up photo of a beardy Wiggo. Seems the not-insigificant other used the baby to charm her way to the front.

I saw Wiggins sign on. Then I rode up to the low road to wait for the peleton (long wait).

When they went past, I saw Cav coming back through the cars.

we saw most of the teams sign on, then sprinted to watch the start, then arellcat towed us up Queen's drive. we just got to the low road as the first cars came through. then the peloton in a big bunch - couldn't spot any individual riders at that point.

Good photos. I saw Cav and Evan Oliphant on Redstone Rig where I was lucky enough to watch the race go past. Rode out with Porto Velo. Several CCE there including Laidback who I didn't manage to speak to as he rode off the front. Very cold up there though. Glad to get moving again.

    Comment on above -

    "

The traffic chaos this morning was absurd. How about we do this kind of nonsense on the weekend next time. Can't believe we bring the capital to a standstill in the middle of the week for this...

"Welcome to the Edinburgh Evening News - home of the capital's terminally-negative, greetin'-faced whingers" ;-)

My favourite comment is "Highlight of the year mate! As proven by the seven spectators pictured above, and the schoolkids glad for any opportunity to skive off lessons."

I used to think that such miserable, carnaptious folk existed only in the imagination of writers like Scott, Dickens, or RLS. Then I started reading the online edition of EEN...

Redstone Rig is never warm, is it?

Had a fine ride out today, didn't spot many CCErs there (apart from, I think, fimm and a definite Harts Cyclery), but after towing a few clubmates back towards town (it's all down hill :-) ) turned round and found ARobComp was enjoying the tow as well. Had a good chat on the way into Edinburgh.

Saw all the riders - they were only 3 or 4 deep on the Rig, but recognised Trentin, Dowsett, Greipel, Wiggins, House (who seemed to want to cycle where I was standing), Downing, Clancy, and Scott Mitchell taking photos out of one of the Sky cars.

Saw laidback Dave and had good chat actually came back down to near where he positioned the bent. Arobcomp on red stone, came back via garvald with theo which was excellent, met fimm on the descent.

Great ride out and back just over seventy miles from Balerno. Good banter on the hillside. Anti climax when the peloton came through, but knew that would be the case. There was a twelve year old girl went up faster than the pros but I guess it was too early in a long state for them to be totally hammering it.

Loved that KOM started and ended with a cattle grid. Theo did excellent bunny hop on the cattle grid at bottom of whiteadder descent. Glad they put new Tarmac on the ropey bit there.

Yes. I did sort of tag onto PV ride but wanted to get out past Gifford. Good seeing such a turnout at 8.30.

After Gifford I encountered the Balerno Fietsclub led by Gembo. He got top points for having mudguards in my book! I cheered on anyone with panniers too.

A few young riders out. Hopefully with permission.

On way back I stopped at Saltoun school - they had gone to a lot of trouble to put out a brilliant bike display. Down the road was the community cafe where I met Mike Bonnar and others .
Found that my bike was around 1mph slower on average speed and was undergeared. Still a nice thing to see so many out. Two tandems - one must have been Colin and Sonya from Audax Ecosse.

@laidback yes one tandem was stoked by sonya, I know her through work. She told us good story about her massive disc brake on the back wheel, she was on tour and asked by passerby how hot the disc was, before she could stop him the guy touched it and burnt his finger.

Also have to admit, taking up the rear of the fietsclub Balerno is my usual leading position.

Took No.1 son out of school to go and see the start. Saw teams He was very chuffed to see Wiggo in person, and to get a free Tour Of Britain cycling cap. We were on the 'wrong' side of the barriers for getting up the hill, so it took us a while to get up, despite jogging we missed the riders as they re-entered the park. Ah well we did our best, and got some exercise into the bargain.

Oh yeah, on the way there, we were walking down Croft-an-Righ and were passed by police on motorbikes escorting Brenda's Bentley to the park. I presume they were there to pick her up from the royal chopper (which I saw later) and deliver her to Waverley for the chop-choo ride. (See Borders Railway thread)

We were on the 'wrong' side too, but we had the tandem parked on the other side. Still knackered when we got there though. It was quite a push.

Meant to say it was nice to see Mr SRD too.

His is the only video I've seen of today as missed the ITV coverage and can't get ITV4 +1 to work on our box. Will be online tomorrow though.

Don't know how long the breakaway group were out for.

When you see the support vehicles in a line like that it shows the shear scale of organising something like this.

  23. From just after the final intermediate sprint in Warkworth today (at which point the 6 man break had 3 minutes or so on the main field, and we genuinely thought they may hold on to Blyth).

It was nice to (finally) meet gembo and Theo. I'm sorry I didn't chat more, but I was trying to catch up with Boyfriend of Fimm and Friends of Fimm (who were the people I was taking to outside the pub in Garvald). We had soup there, and then cycled to Gullane for coffee and cake at Falco before returning to Edinburgh with 120km or so under our belts. It is a while since I've cycled that far and I am feeling it this morning!

Nice photos WC - my sister (and I assume my parents) were in the group sitting on the bank under the castle, visible in your first shot.

All in all had a great day - rode out with Porto Velo and various CCErs, then was chummed home by Gembo and his pal John via Garvald where we briefly met a cheery Fimm. Good chat and magic bacon/egg rolls were then had at Gifford where we met some bemused American tourists who thought we were taking part in the ToB.

A great morning out. I realised we'd all be dragging our brakes on the way down to Gifford as a group among so many other cyclists. So I went off on my own. Sorry I didn't say cheerio to anyone except ARobComp who was never going to be troubled by my breakaway attempt.

@Cyclingmollie - if it wasn't for the traffic lights in Tranent, I doubt I would have caught up. Glad that's not your regular pace!!
