A DEDICATED police officer has been appointed to Edinburgh’s trams and buses in a city-wide first.

Transport chiefs said the move, which is a joint initiative between Police Scotland and Transport for Edinburgh, was part of a wider community safety and crime prevention drive.

But bosses insisted the new role was not directly linked to a rise in antisocial behaviour on board services.

Right, so can we expect a dedicated officer to 'look after' pedestrians and cyclists?

  2. Only when they have a cycling safety drive (though those officers will be reminding cyclists that they need to be wearing bright colours, have a helmet on, and to be nice and not antagonise anyone in a car).

"... bosses insisted the new role was not directly linked to a rise in antisocial behaviour on board services"

    Yeah right.

Do they have separate pools of dedicated and indifferent officers from which to fill this role?

Chipwrapper was certainly running stories to a similar effect about buses at Muirhouse / Pennywell.

For my sins I used to drive for Lothian Buses. The 32/52 was often a fun run in the night hours. Always worse during the school holidays, which is slightly ironic as I wouldn't have thought the delinquents would be at school very often. My worse assaults though were on the 19 at either end at Restalrig and Pilton! And this was 15 years ago when things were better.
