Edinburgh to Carlisle

  1. In the spirit of the Edinburgh to Dundee thread - anyone done all or part of a possible route to Carlisle? Looks a neat 100 miler, and I've got an old school friend lives there who I haven't seen for over 20 years, but who I sort of helped get back into cycling (and he's now doing triathlons) and was pondering a ride down later in the year.

    if going that way then will be into prevailing wind? You could train down and bike back. THough the wind may not be prevailing etc

    I think you have 3 options which kind of depend where in Edinburgh you are setting off from.

    I did it the other way and came up from Langholm, through Eskdale and Innerleithen on Sunday and it was lovely (see thread)

    Alternatives I looked at were to stick to the old A74 alongside the motorway and then turn off at either Moffat and take the Devil's Beef Tub (as per PaddyIrish's route above) or Biggar and head to Carnwath and the Lang Wang.

    Ultimately decided that the hills would be more interesting.
