    @Wilmington's Cow I understood your spellcheck annoyance on the George Street Improvement thread (pedestrianise or pedestrianize) but I wouldn't worry; -ize actually has a longer heritage in British English believe it or not

    Yup. I edited a journal published by OUP (since 1901) and we would tell authors 'British spellings' or 'OED first preference' and they didn't believe us....

  3. Language is endlessly fascinating - I guess that's kinda like the aluminium vs. aluminum thing with, again, the Americans actually sticking with the older version that was once prevalent here too.

    The insistence of my browsers to try and enforce US spelling on me no matter how often I try to reset it really does my head in too.
