A little warning: the traffic light sequence at the junction of North Bridge & Princes St has changed.

Previously: coming from North Bridge, left filter to Princes St would go green (then back to red), then the right light to Leith St would go green.

This no longer happens and resulted in about 7 cyclists jumping the red light this morning (and almost getting run down by oncoming traffic).

  2. Wonder why that's happened... Thanks for the warning, easy to get into habits with these things.

I just checked with @edintravel on twitter:

"Engineers did a manual over-ride earlier to clear the queue on Princes St."

So looks like a one off.

But yes, very easy to get into habits. I was convinced the other vehicles must have jumped a red light, but checking my video shows they didn't!

  4. I hate it when that happens - convinced someone has done something wrong, then check the footage, and no, they were perfectly fine (though with the camera it means I don't generally react at the time, so I don't make a fool of myself when it turns out they hadn't done anything wrong).

Like they say in football, play to the whistle.

I have noticed this happening before. I also noticed the other day that coming from Princes Street to turn onto North Bridge, the lights changed to amber as I rode through and must have instantly changed from North Bridge as I found a wall of traffic charging into my side. It used to be like this but I thought they had changed it. Makes sense (in a TiE type way) if they are being tinkered with manually.

There are some junctions along the tram route which normally do one thing, unless there's a tram approaching (but still out of site). Gets a lot of people when the sequence changes to something unexpected.

Hmm. Hopefully if they're playing about with the settings there they might have a think about how to more permanently de-fankle it, imminent disruption and undecided future changes to Leith Street notwithstanding.
