I went for good cat eye 300 lumen front rechargeable spot for 25 quid, two skullys as I love them for 12 quid and a smart back light normal batteries as I have too many USB ones at the moment. 8 quid

    Let the light wars begin

Had terrible trouble buying on line this morning should have got them last night at eleven when the Internet was quiet. Think problem more with talk talk than EBC though their system has crashed in past due to demand.

Got some bargains in person. I usually fail to find anything.

Internet-ordered two sale things this morning but then got an email this afternoon saying they were both already gone.

Confesion; I did a whole forty miles around East in my new kit without noticing that I hadn't taken off the tags

I ordered set of skullys only to find I already have a set of skullys in the drawer waiting for winter, you can never have too many skullys.

Hopefully the actual light I am after which is showing as stock at another shop does show up.

Vulpine are still selling there hoy El toro bib shorts for forty quid, they have top end cytech pad of anyone is in need of bib shorts (I have enough of them)

Those who have cycled with me will be pleased to know I have replaced my eight year old EBC shorts and six year old Gore bibs. No more inflicting my shiny cheeks through threadbare Lycra on wheelsuckers. I feel like a king.

@amir, the tags come off in the wash.

Forgot that ordering on line is not given precedence so if stock runs out in the store you are out of luck. Fortunately, I had ordered the bargain jersey in the size indicated as 39-41 inch chest but one of the chaps I was out with had been in the shop yesterday and tried on the large which fitted him and he is skinnier than me. So all working out.

Popped in today to have a look. Hoped to find a cheap in-line seat post but nothing available. Also got super-patronised by a staff member who was the least humourous person I've ever met.

Popped in earlier and picked up a nice lighter weight (than my winter one) revolution windproof for £19.99 (was £50).

Their own brand windproofs are made by Polaris and are excellent even at full whack, so to pick it up less than half price has made my day.

I gave in. I popped in today and got their last Park Tool maintenance stand. I know there are cheaper ones but £49 for the Park one seemed worthwhile.

Park make the stands that the mechanics use. Another bargain. I need to start going back to the shop rather than ordering on line? However, last time I did that it was like a mad jumble sale with men fighting over items. Also I bought a bargain saddle I was not looking for which was as hard as nails.

I have so far resisted looking too closely at this EBC sale given that I just ordered a new winter jacket (up to 50% off Altura Night Vision) and bits from Tredz...

How did you find the fit of the night vision? I've just been given a new one to replace my previous one and the sleeves seem to be 50% wider and quite a bit longer than the previous one.

@acsimpson I haven't received the replacement yet, but I will let you know when I do... I have already replaced a set of their liner gloves and noticed that the style had changed substantially - they feel different on my hands.

    @acsimpson

funny you should mention that about sleeves - when I was in EBC the other day, I tried on two different variants of Gore Bike Wear jackets - not that I wanted to shell out that much on a waterproof, but wanted to try one on for future ref.

In both cases, the arms were long to the point of Orangutang-like comedy.

I am a shade over 6 feet tall, and dont have proportionally short arms.

    Was it a faulty batch?

Who knows - one things for sure, there is no way I was paying >£100 for that fit, waterproof or otherwise.

My Gore waterproof (about 5 years old) also has long arms. Seems to work out on the bike

  19. @Nelly - I bought a Gore Power 2.0 Windstopper top last year in the Wiggle sale.

We're of a comparable height, and the sleeves are quite generous in length. However, that comes into its own once you're on the bike as they won't ride up once you're bent over the bars - which is fab in winter as it eliminates the bare area 'twixt glove and sleeve.

I absolutely love it as a top - especially the zip-off sleeves for those early spring and autumn days when it's too cold to ride sleeveless in the morning but too warm for sleeves by the afternoon.

    @amir and @tfl - cheers.

tfl, you can show me that orangutan impression later in the year :-)

The length doesn't bother me as much as tightening the cuffs will stop them sliding over my hands. The extra diameter on the sleeves however seems stranger, all that extra material flapping in the wind makes me think it might be worth a trip to the shop to try some alternatives on before using it on the bike.

That's the way bax. I got a "nice shorts" comment yesterday so I think a bike would be noticed. Or maybe the shorts would distract from the new bike.

I've been put off by the scrum @gembo too. But on Saturday afternoon it was no busier than usual and I got a couple more pairs of shorts in the size I wanted and the changing rooms were free. There seemed to be loads of stock.

what has happened here is that their sales have not had that many bargains and people have stopped going to the rammy in the shop. Then this year, those who have gone have had an OK experience and picked up the bargains I ordered online. I am not happy.

    also jeALOUS OF THE tARMAC

no more hooks for bikes though in the garage

@acsimpson I have now received my new Night Vision Evo jacket which seems similar in size to the original, if not exactly the same. Both are size small, but I could believe that the new one is slightly larger and heavier overall. However, I suspect that part of the perceptual difference is down to the relative stiffness of the new fabric compared to that of the old one. I like the new LED light attachment to the rear. The green is brighter than I had expected, but that is probably a good thing!

@acsimpson now that I have started to wear my new jacket it has become apparent that it is indeed a little larger than my previous jacket of the same size (small) - I am noticing the difference mostly around the chest where I can feel the material bunching up somewhat when cycling. The sleeves don't feel overly long but certainly wider, while the overall length of the jacket feels shorter if anything. I suppose that average sizes may have changed during the five years since I bought my previous jacket?

One unanticipated drawback of the green being brighter than expected is that I keep blinding myself with the light from my headtorch which gets reflected back from the jacket when I turn to look behind, which I tend to do sporadically to check that my rear light is working.

I've noticed that my Orange Mavic Vision vest is a wee bit tight round my BELLY! It was fine over the summer and on Paris Brest Paris. Must cycle a wee bit more...

It's the sleeves of my medium which seem huge. I've heard of the nations expanding waistlines but not Britain's bulging biceps.

I've not ridden them yet but guess there will be a lot of wind flap. I considered swapping for small but it was too tight across the shoulders.

I took my new night vision out for the first time today and the wide sleeves seem fine once your riding. The heavier weight of the fabric means that it doesn't flap in the wind in the way a lighter jacket does. Hopefully it will keep me dry tonight too.
