    <sarcasm>Love the photo - one with helmet the other without - shows balance and not that everyone must wear one.
    Also the dolt without the helmet is not in the cycle lane. Well done that man"</sarcasm>

    Like cllr Corbett's thinking, especially the point about “In Copenhagen these have saved a million lost sick days due to improved health, so cycle routes are a part of economic investment,”

  3. I see the commenters are off on the 'cyclists cause congestion' rant. Apparently it's down to:

    - cyclists weaving in traffic causing cars to stop and therefore having a knock on effect;

    - cyclists travelling uphill at 4mph on the Royal Mile and other hilly areas holding up buses;

    - cyclists using Princes Street when there's a lane on George Street (nothing more, just using the street, apparently that's what clogs all the buses).

    Blinkers well and truly engaged. The worry is they actually believe this, and that it's not just the sheer 'weight of traffic'.

    It does seem to have caused some confusion though, where they seem happy to get cyclists 'out of the way', but that conflicts with giving 'concessions' to cyclists. Oh the quandary. So it all falls back to comfortable ground of 'even if you give cyclists lanes they don't use them'. I really should pull together that video of people parking in cycle lanes, and launch that petition I was going to do.
