So, my work has a staff intranet. Part of it is devoted to staff stories, for example about charity work or if someone has an interesting hobby.

Yesterday's article was about a guy in one of our London offices who is an elite amateur road cyclist and who cycles 50 miles to work as part of his training. All very interesting, and also used to publicise the workplace cycle facilities, bike to work scheme etc.

People can comment on articles and the first thirty or so were very positive: asking about the guy's racing, talking about their own commute, asking for advice about starting cycling to work (I gave a plug for CycleFridays).

    And then it started....

"They don't pay road tax...jump red lights...pavement cyclists...."

It's a workplace intranet forum for goodness sake! Can't these people stay on the EEN/Daily Mail!

    "It's a workplace intranet forum"

    So presumably not too anonymous?

Depressingly enough the intranet where I work is scarily similar. Any mention of the Cycle2Work voucher scheme, bike week or indeed anything vaguely cycling related draws the kind of bile that warms the hearts of EEN/Daily Fail editors.

Our intranet posts your name and department when you reply to anything. Doesn't seem to prevent anyone from releasing their inner Clarkson.

Well, I don't know what will happen now.

We've got some difficult days ahead.

But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop.

    And I don't mind.

I invited anyone who had specific concerns about cycling to email me and basically won them all over through sheer determination and solid logic in emails. However this might not work depending on where you work...

I have just seen an advert which says you can build a model of our solar system.

    The world has gone mad.

Oh, @stickman ignore them - haters gonna hate.

Lost Edinburgh posted a photo last night of princes street in the 50's - a colour one - it's very cool. The comments have decended into a bit of a "ohhh back then you could park your car on princes street- not now though with the car hating council..." mind you what do you expect - it's the internet...
