Hi, I'm looking to borrow the special security wheel key that comes with a Whyte bike and wondered if anyone might have one I could use?
(Long story - gorgeous new bike stolen on Friday night (aaargh) and recovered by police 10 mins after I reported it (yay). Special wheel key was in wee seat pack tool bag, which was not recovered. Front wheel now has a rattle which it never had before and I want to take the wheel off and tighten it up again to see if that helps or if it's something more serious. I've ordered a new key from EBC but not sure how long it will take to arrive. It's going in to EBC for its 6 week service at the weekend so I'm going to ask them to check it over for damage then, but want to check out rattly wheel issue sooner if I can).
I'm mostly around the Meadows at the moment so if anyone can help the closer to there the better.
I am pretty sure that the special key fits all Whyte bikes.
Thanks!

I have one for my 2013 Whyte if you think it's the same key. Am down Leith 'til about five then home to Portobello.

Hi Vez,
I have one which you could try, or borrow at a weekend (when I'm not likely to get a pu....re on that bike).
I work at the University so could meet up with the key any workday.

I was behind a Whyte bike at the lights today and couldn't work out why the wheels had odd-looking lime-green anodised caps on the skewers. Now I know what they were.

Thanks everyone. This forum is brilliant!
@Baldcyclist you have a pm

@Vez George Street, about 845AM, waiting on the interminably long light-cycle at Hanover Street. A dozy looking guy rolled slowly through the lights just before they changed then proceeded to get in everyone's way for the next section.

"This forum is brilliant!"
'We' think so, though some people have left and others (rumoured to) think it's a bit 'cliquish' - sort of inevitable when quite a few people have been on here a long time and some references (especially attempts at humour) are sometimes opaque!
We try to welcome (and keep) and encourage newcomers.
Not enough turn up to the monthly PY (ALL welcome).

Not that it helps, but the Whyte security skewer (and many others) seems to use the Pentaplus system with a 5-faced key and a central hole for a pin. I have a box of various "security" bits that renders most "secure" fixings insecure, however it doesn't include the Pentaplus.
n.b. I'm no master criminal, it's just cheaper to buy the £3.99 set of bits from Screwfix to open the panel of the close door entry system to change the owners name than it is to pay £40 call out fee for a "professional" to come round with the same box of bits to change a wee slip of paper over.

For the avoidance of doubt, dozy-looking in the way guy on George St definitely not me!

@Vez so you were not the person the dozy-looker got in the way of?
