  2. I do like that a lot of these articles are saying, about the George Street trial, that a permanent 'segregated' design will be finalised an put in place, almost daring the council not to.

Have to say though, not too keen on the article as a piece of writing... Too many unresolved alleyways and a very odd sudden reference to clothing at the end not mentioned anywhere else (possibly all down to the editing).

Wondering now if putting comments on the Guardian is better than EEN, but I have done (no-one is crying out about road tax and the like).

I thought from the thread title that it was piece 'written from London', but she was here and cycled around - though only found three people worth quoting(?)

Don't know how much "challenge" here is 'it's difficult' or 'it's not easy but we are on the way to achieving it'.

These city centre routes, Edinburgh’s transport convener, Lesley Hinds agrees, are the next challenge - linking up the outer routes and park cycle paths to the city centre.

Hinds believes Edinburgh has a good story to tell with increases in cycling, tram and bus use, and a growing number of car-free households.

"An arcane disagreement over bike lanes between two London-based Guardian writers, you say? Isn’t that a bit niche? Possibly."

Loved that. Substitute "Edinburgh" and "CCE" for relevant bits. :-)

I can't follow some of the article, it has maybe been edited badly? What hill on George St?

Ah that's the sign of a true cyclist:

    - when you don't notice you're going up hills anymore
    - when you don't notice it's raining
    - when you fit mudguards

George street? Totally flat? Isn't it? It is up a hill from princes street and queen street but it is level, as in James Craig original design for new town, but then you know this....
