The "gentleman" responsible is taking a hammering in the comments. Unusually, no mention of cyclists yet, but give it time.

My kids go to this school, I see the parking in this street and the disabled space in question every day, and I know Mr. Pearson.

This story is, even by the EEN's standards, sensationalist click bait bollocks.

He should never have parked in the space, no excuse for that.

However, he has been trying to get the space made 'official' such that it can be enforced as blue badge holders only. He has gone about it in a slightly odd way, though it looks like he has suceeded prior to the current shit storm. At the moment it is advisory and so in constant use by many residents and parent alike, so no use to any disabled person.

I wonder if Mr Pearson and Mr Wallace were in on it together?

I'm not sure from the story how that is going to stop other blue badge holders from using that space. Surely there is no guarantee that it is always going to be available.

Perhaps not, but it might at least be used by someone who does need it.

This is a joke, a total assassination by the EEN and possibly this kid's father.

That space is constantly, and I do mean constantly, abused by a large number of residents and parents. I've seen this chaps car in it, I've seen countless other cars in it. His 'objection' was to have it removed from the advisory spaces TRO and made into an enforceable bay - hardly selfish.

I already knew the EEN is a sensationalist rag, but this is the first time I've seen first hand what a lot of bollocks it's prepared to print in order to sell a few copies and how little regard it has for the effect of it's actions, and frankly, I'm sickened by it.

    Apologies for the rant.

Personally if I were the parent in question and my child was sick and someone had parked in the disables space, I'd happily double park across them and box them in. It's not like the police are going to come enforce the double parking now is it?

Or park on a single or double yellow nearby as the badge entitles you to...
