@frenchy - swimming is the kindest form of exercise. However if you have gone from nowt to a mile in one bound then you will probably be stiff. But then it will be your own fault I guess?

I swam a mile once and once only and when I got out I fell over. Much respect. Do you do the crawl?

Frenchy which triathlon are you doing? Do you mean a middle distance?
(Half a triathlon is as meaningful as half a bicycle ride. ;-) They come in various lengths. I'm pretty sure I know what Frenchy means, though.)

The Tranent Sprint Triathlon on 5th April - 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.
In my defence, "sprint" seems even less appropriate as a description of the distances involved than "half".

It is, coincidentally, about a mile between Banff and Macduff harbours. Just in case you fancy expanding your adventuring...

@Frenchy
I would in all honesty have to call the coastguard prior to setting out.
Sea kayak is calling to me.

There's an organised annual Banff Bay Swim (weather depending, of course - doesn't seem to have actually happened since 2017).
I did it a few times about 15 years ago. One guy used to get someone in one of the boats carry his fags, so he could have a smoke halfway across. I preferred to get across and out of the water as soon as possible.
Cold. So bloody cold.

@Frenchy oh. I'd put you down for a "half Ironman" i.e. 1900m swim, 56 mile bike, 13 mile run... a Sprint is indeed half a Standard, but yes, it can sound like a bit of a misnomer.
I think I've only done Tranent once. Happy to offer advice if you'd like any...
(Sounds like you've got enough of a swimming background. You'll be fine.)

@IwratS - Sea kayak is calling to me.
In common with others of this parish, I have a tendency to throw myself off boats.
Yet, sea kayaking also seems interesting - I've even gone so far as to find a local course, but not so far as booking it!

Oddly I find myself drawn to a sea kayak too unfortunately I have the upper body strength of a toddler.

@steveo
Me too mate. And kayaking will help?

Might help bring this thread back on topic!

It sounds like a few of you are candidates for any Forth canoe expedition that @paddyorish organises.

@fimm - I'll likely have a few questions on practicalities and etiquette, so I'll bear that in mind, thanks.
Did what I'm calling a "functional triathlon" today - cycled 20 km doing some errands, went for a 2000 m swim, dropped bike off for a service and then
ranjoggedshambled 6 km home.All far, far, slower than I would hope to do an actual triathlon, but hopefully my body will start to get used to the idea that different forms of exercise can happen in a single day.
