Had a quick look in the new Go Outdoors shop down in Granton (just at the roundabout with the loos in the middle). Not bad, lots of mid range bits and bobs, though not maintenance kind of stuff.

Their selection of clothes was distinctly summery and mostly Polaris (not a mm of fuzzy felt anywhere)

Been meaning to have a look in there. I'd probably be after hill walking stuff though.
You need to buy a discount card to make it worthwhile I think. £4 a year for that.

I was going to pop there for a quick look at their range of allegedly-waterproof walking-trainers, especially after this morning. Did you interact with the staff at all? There's a review somewhere being fairly uncomplimentary about their inclination/ability to offer advice...

There were a (very) few staff, and they all looked a bit bored :).

Suspect it would about be the same level of advice that I was able to give runners during my nearly five years service with Cobra Sports/Sports Division/JJB Sports.

They did have a little bike maintenance shed, but suspect that was just for assembling the floor bikes.

Why doesn't someone pop in and say they would like to do a review of their shop for this site and see what happens?

We have visited this shop. Its very big and the views so far are right. It all looks middle of the range stuff. They do have a lots of stuff there.

Incidentally, Tiso have 2 discount nights on the 26th Oct and 2nd Nov from 6.30pm - 8.30pm. I do not work for Tiso but thought this may be of help for some on here.

"Its the Rose Street store. Discounts will be 10% of maps, publications and GPS, 15% off practically everything else such as clothing, footwear, rucsacs, tents, accessories and sleeping bags with 20% off all climbing and mountaineering. In addition to this we have some great prices on last season’s models of many ice axes – some of which are half price! All our new Autumn/Winter products are now in stock, so be quick to take advantage of this great opportunity."

@kaputnik get a vango not-a-thermorest thermorest. cheap anyway and great value! Im seriously loving mine, a good, comfortable warm night sleep anywhere :) and packs pretty small (smaller than callogen foam, tho heavier obv.)

Oooh. I suppose I can last for another four days with hygroscopic sponges covering my feet if it means saving thirteen quid on a pair of waterproof shoes, though they didn't have what I wanted in the size I wanted it in at lunchtime. The delay will give me time to investiage Go Outdoors. Popped to the other one on the way out of Glasgow last year sometime where there was plenty to look at but nothing I needed enough to buy at the time.

ruggtomcat, thanks I will take your advice! The price of thermorest also influences my decisions making and as it's mainly for cycletouring I'm not looking for microlight backpacking weight stuff.

There's a GoOutdoors in Coatbridge too. I go there for Craghopper Kiwis and we got a nice Vango tent half price in July.

I've never had to ask the staff for info so I don't know what they're like.
