Other than the (limited?) bike parking at the end of Elm Row, is there any other proper bike parking in the vicinity?

Neeup. Railings beside London Road or Montgomery Street exit/entry. Trees at the back of the parking spaces. Railings and posts by Gayfield Square. Railings at Annandale Street corner. One rack outside hi-fi corner according to StreetView.

Thanks- trying to decide which bike to take- not that comfortable locking the road bike to railings...

...but it would be handier to have than the hybrid for the rest of the day :P

Ha! I hadn't spotted the rack by HiFi corner (I'd also had a scout around on street view)- well spotted!

Some opposite Joseph Pierce may or may not have been mentioned?

Elm Row is actually not bad for bike parking, but could always be better.

There are proper Sheffield stands (with the extra cross bar for a locking point too) just next to Valvona & Crolla/Wm. Hill, and also next to Vinyl Villains/Ladbrokes.

Great, if there are two places with Sheffield then I should hopefully get a space. I only saw the one by V&C's when I looked on streetview.

I had a quick check on OpenStreetMap - and we do have all 3 of these mapped, shown as blue squares on the cycle layer: http://osm.org/go/evfLsXUFR--?layers=CN

We also record capacity, checking the details the two sets of racks on the Elm Row side have spaces for 4 bikes each. (2 sheffield stands). And the Hi-Fi Corner parking is a single sheffield scan. Does this agree with the current state?

@chrisfi, yes they're all there, though I notice the Sheffield stands on the corner of London Road roundabout/Blenheim Place are not on OpenStreetMap. I'm not sure how to update the map, but you can see the racks at the Streetview link below, they've been there for at least ten years.

I suppose there are quite a few bike racks not on there that I know of, mostly in the vicinity of Abbeyhill/Easter Road/Hillside. Maybe I shall get an OpenStretMap account and add them in.....or maybe I'll just be selfish and keep all that bike parking to myself. Mwahaha...

I'm a registered editor on OpenStreetMap, but recently none of my edits have been going up. Reading this reminded me to add some bike parking this morning, but none of the edits I did the other day, including an entire new car park and sections of new cycle path, are visible yet - frustrating!

"but none of the edits I did the other day..."

Unless there is an OSM problem - which presumably is mentioned somewhere - sounds like a save/upload problem(?)

paulmilne - I try and keep an eye on changes, what's your openstreetmap username?

The main map usually updates very quickly, but the cyclemap isn't on such a fast update cycle. But I would have expected to see them by now.
