We went to the Royal Highland Show that day. A number of commentators at the various displays managed to slip in disparaging remarks about the result and no-one raised a dissenting voice.

I didn't enjoy the show very much - just not in the mood for it.

Glasgow Live just shared a film of Anthony Bourdain in the University Cafe (Patrick end of Byres Rd) he has a full fish supper and a deep fried haggis. Maybe this is what killed him??

Watched the whole episode on Netflix yesterday (Parts Unknown, series 5). He also ends up in Mother India and has a ringside seat at a pagger. He has 2 haggis and a fish supper but just a tiny bottle of Irn Bru (perhaps the thirst did for him?)

Trying to be positive on boardwalk cafe moaning about Crammond carparks being closed. Looks nice without cars

Looking at the Boardwalk's TripAdvisor reviews, brutal.

Fairly consistent themes. I recall he used to engage with negative reviews, think he must have stopped as you can never win that game.

The cafe is much better than it was and he has worked hard to create it. Has jazz on sundays

I am wishing to stay positive.

He has had various campaigns re getting racks and e-bikes to help the business. God loves a trier.

They have an odd way of using Facebook. It seems to exclusively be rants about how the Council is neglecting Crammond in favour of Porty. Bins, Bus Routes, Cycle racks/hire, etc.

Lately he's been grumbling about the road closure.

    @acsimpson

Yes I have been trolling him On facebook saying how lovely Crammond looks without cars, encouraging his patrons to cycle down on safe roads etc. Someone with initials HW seems to like my posts but I think he may also be a very keen cyclist.

I do hope he has bought the building outright from the council as his ranting will go mad if he is forced to tender for his own business. THis is something councils get trapped into - linked to tendering legislation - this happened to my friends who created the cafe up at Harlaw from nothing. Also similar to the cafe at Glentress. And my old man’s golf shop though he argued that he built it so it was his, council backed down a little but I think stopped paying him a retainer.

last time we were at the cafe on the Boardwalk we were served by an ERC rider. she commented on the kids kit.

like others here, I think they're trying hard, but sometimes too hard.

@gembo, @acsimpson: Sorry to be picky, and I don't normally comment on things like this but in this instance the error has been repeated three times within 24 hours: it's Cramond with one "m". (Unless there's something else going on that I am not privy to.)

I'll get back under my rock now...

@ejstubbs, happy to be corrected. No problem.

I might be as b old as to venture that you do normally correct errors. Which again I dont mind.

I ranted rudely at Mr Boardwalk, who has been annoying me for a while, and stopped liking/following his page.

I think he is struggling with lockdown and not being able to park at his cafe, does he not live Colinton?

@acsimpson and my mate in the Roads Dept liked my comments (trolling him sheesh I must have been bored) Indeed I think my comments got most likes anything on his page has had for. Awhile. He does sometimes post about lost dogs which gets some action

He's now suggesting that soldiers road is Amit to reopen. Has anyone else heard that?

He has always been able to park there. Marine drive hasn't been shut.

    Recently was recommended this place:

    Ferry Tasty
    16 Hopetoun rd
    EH30 9RA South Queensferry

    Facebook page

we welcome quite literally any cyclist even medical profs..always got our cyclist only deal on £4 for a cake/bacon roll and a coffee...

The owner is a cyclist and post photos from his rides on his days off.
The food looks good and sounds very friendly. I am planning to head over today on my way home.

@Iain McR will want to judge the bacon roll quality.

@unhurt Maybe @Iain McR will be able to judge the coffee quality as well because all I can judge is 'does it taste like coffee?' :)

I went to Ferry Tasty this arvo. There was one cyclist in the shop when I arrived and another waiting outside when I was leaving, so it's a popular place. You can bring your bike inside which is really handy.

The decor is cycling shirts and frames. I think the owner keeps his commuting bike in the shop as well (at least the bike looked dirty enough to be used as a regular commuting bike). They stock tubes and little bottles of chain lube (useful info for @IWARTS).

I had stovies, cappucino cheesecake and tea. Stovies come with cake, I was told. All very nice.

There is a carpark round the corner with benches and tables overlooking the waterfront and the bridges and that's where I had my lunch.

I wish there was a nice route to S Queensferry from Livi so I could visit it more often. I went through East Calder, Newbridge and Kirkliston. I definitely prefer my more rural roads south-west of Livingston. At least no traffic jam in Kirkliston for a change.

When I saw “even medical profs” I wondered if that was a nod to @cyclingsurgeon but I suspect not. For a while between my goalkeeping, mountain-biking and just general being a radge we were on first name terms in the hand orthopaedic clinic

@ bill nice routes west of that cafe through hopetoun grounds then down to Abercorn then trails to blackness and Bo’ness.

None of this is near Livingston but when has that ever stopped you?

Akva is selling off its furniture. Hemma started last Sunday.
Going to be some big gaps. Shame as really liked the vibe and did go in a few times when they re-opened in summer.

Ok - should be in pubs or cafe/bar thread?

The kids go to school in Portobello and we walk along the beach every morning. At the moment, we all do a site visit to the brand new Civerinos Slice that we are building on the promenade. We say hello to the builders and the guys that are working with us.

Lothian Larder has recently opened. They offer self service farm shop stuff plus self service coffee and cake (latter requires cash). Located off the road between Fala Dam and Tynehead. I've not tested it yet.

    @amir will check that one

In glamorous west Lothian the castaway cafe in Livingston village gets a good write up from cyclists I know
