Is anyone else going to Mark Beaumont's event at the Mountain Film Festival tomorrow evening?

Very entertaining evening though I'd failed to realise that being a mountain film festival there might be several mountain films to watch before Mark came on. Still, they were good.

Says he will announce plans for his next adventure in about a month's time. It won't involve cycling. Also his new book will be out for Christmas.

I was there in covert mode working; there were actually about 8 seats left in total, but we were sat on the steps at side; so effectively it was a sell-out!
An interesting slant on the making of the Beebs documentary and the carrying of so much broadcast technology in 4 panniers! Having to train to keep hill fit as well as crouching over bike with a saddle for so many miles was some punishment! Good on him!
Why doesn't he use an invisible bike or a recumbreational?

On his RTW tour he knew that anything different could attract attention so would increase stop times.
On the Americas tour he could have but this was hilly route - so would have added time albeit with more comfort.
Trike would be good load carrier for him - though he found some South American traffic fairly hostile I think. Did he not meet a guy who was using a wheelchair?

  7. For the latest trip he was apparently very VERY taken with the Manta saddle (a flexible rocking type thing that looks terribly uncomfortable but most definitely isn't) but went with the saddle he had because, well, the company supplying it would sponsor him - not something Manta can afford to do yet.

ICE, Nazca and Challenge have had many people doing longish trips on their trikes and bikes - they may well consider it. Should I ask him? Or do you think going laid back would damage his credibility as a real cyclist? Think it can't be compared to upright directly but not cheating that much surely?
