Thinking maybe I should put my spikes on? new tyre this year, so need to run them in. Supposed to get down towards freezing at the end of the week (not yet any frost warnings though)

I didn't run mine in, and they worked like magic from day one.

Asap please, the more offerings to the snow gods the less chance we have of getting frozen weather :)

I have one front wheel I can change to spikes but I am hopeful this will be the third winter in a row I haven't used them more than maybe once.

13° outside at the moment according to my Lidl thermometer. Take 24h to think about it.

Winter starts now in December and hopefully ends at end of Feb. Legitimate to wear schwalbe winter tyres during this period if you wan to?

Does this mean there are people who put winter tyres on before they've fallen off?

    hmmmmm....

edintravel: Due to expected low temps road services are preparing for the 1st grit of winter *tomorrow morning* from 7.30 for Cat1 carriageway, footway & cycle way routes. We'll provide gritting updates plans whenever they happen. #edintravel #Readywinter15

Hmm. I'm time-constrained to Cat1 bus routes on Friday mornings anyway.

I've still got a pair of unused and unneeded Schwalbe Winters (26 X 1.75) if anyone wants them - say £15?

On now. Bring on the snow. (I also bought 3 sledges from bike works yesterday!!!!)

On a less cheery note, I had forgotten just how horrible tactiles are for spiky tyres.

Tactiles (and the adjacent leaf mulch paths) are also horrible on a Brompton with skinny Schwalbe Kojaks.

The back tyre of the torpedo is the Kojak version of a Big Apple, and it's absolutely useless in slush or snow.

Facebook does this thing where it shows you photos from the same date in the past so it appears that I fitted the spikes a year ago last weekend.

I've got a water pump to fit on my car, it's been sitting in the drive since May.

I've got to fit a SON tail light on a Brompton. It doesn't have an integral reflector, it's not easy to fit the separate reflector onto one with no rack and the back mudguard is broken so I might fit the spare rack which is in the garage on that one as that also includes a mudguard. There is more room for the reflector and SON tail light on a rack.

Lets see if I can break the super cap on the SON.

Anywho, I'm hoping to fit the spikes this weekend. Failing that I can find a battery light for the front of the Longstaff. It has spikes on all year.
