Gorgie Dalry community council have an extension. They will be commenting after their meeting on the 5th October. There is a comment on their web page complaining that hundreds of trees will be cut down as part of this work. https://gorgiedalrycc.org.uk/2020/09/24/gdcc-public-meeting-agm-5th-october-2020/

Aargh. Thought maybe just this once, since no one is loosing a parking spot, this might not have everyone up in arms.

We can’t have nice things. This is why I moved to Norway.

Signed.

"There is a comment on their web page complaining that hundreds of trees will be cut down as part of this work."
That would be the trees that are currently locked away behind spiked fences, or marooned from pedestrian access by railways and pedestrian-verboten roads? A handful of arboreal casualties will open up the remainder for the delectation of all.
I wish objectors (CCs often being the main offenders, seemingly) would be honest enough to state their real objections rather than this greenwashed nonsense.

@Murun - you put into words a cloudy idea of mine. You used to be able to get up to the embankment and enjoy the trees. Then folk started camping there and they fenced it off totally. People don't get much enjoyment out of a green corridor, which could be opened up to the hemmed-in residents of Dalry & Gorgie.

You’re right @murun. Sorry I was a bit over dramatic. It’s just one comment by a member of the public. Last I heard, the community council were neutral to positive about the route.

That's good, @daisydaisy, thanks

I think comments become visible after the deadline but it might not be until after the decison.
@srd if you were signed into the portal you can change your comments.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I was. But can’t figure out how to amend them. Will try again. Super embarrassing.
Posted 4 years ago # -
@SRD, I can only imagine that people are forever doing that with the system, and I'm sure they pick it up when working through the comments.
Full disclosure - I managed to do the same thing with the Dundas plaque consultation, so just duplicated my comment and added it again with the correct support button ticked... :-(Posted 4 years ago # -
I sorted it! I hadn't logged in to my account for the Dundas plaque but i had done today. thank goodness.
Thank you for fessing up NiallA That makes me feel better!

I trust they will wholeheartedly support my proposal to create one of the longest continuous wildlife corridors in Edinburgh by tearing up the road planting the whole length of the West Approach Road corridor with trees?
I'm sure you could get a lot more than 800 in.
In fact the more I think about this the more keen I am. It could be Edinburgh's answer to the High Line!

“It could be Edinburgh's answer to the High Line!“
Would mesh nicely with that new route to Roseburn...

Gorgie Dalry community council have an extension. They will be commenting after their meeting on the 5th October.
Be interesting to see what they submit. Despite community councils be statutory consultees, commenting on planning is (IMHO) dodgy ground for CCs. Any CC response needs to reflect the range of community views, so a binary 'oppose' or' support' shouldn't really be an option. Our CC agreed that we would only ever 'comment'.
In cases like this the main role of the CC should be to engage and get people to engage and to make their own submissions to the planning process. Large scale consultations/surveys can be useful to very hard to do well.

Possibly not related, but nearby: the abandoned building at the Russel Road end of Murieston Crescenthas disappeared since I last commuted that way:

Not as good a picture, but I caught it being knocked down on a rare trip to the office.

Your office got knocked down @chrisfl.? Anaphorically I mean.

Supportive submission from Gorgie & Dalry CC:

Nice to see a community council supporting cycl8ng and walking. They do have a list of improvements . Fair enough. Shows an understanding of the brief.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I feel like asking Dalry & Gorgie community council to stage a coup over other community councils I could mention. Their suggestions for improvements seem reasonable, and they embrace the general principle.

That’s a nice submission from GDCC. They’rea good bunch

Campaign to stop (or at the very least completely redesign) the route in order to save trees has started.

Assuming this is true, it does seem an excessive amount to be felled -
“
However, red crosses show trees to be removed for the cycle path development: it is the whole wood.
It is not necessary. Paths could be routed through this wood with the loss of very few trees: in fact, there are already a paths in place, with good hard standing, running the length of the wood. The old railway base is the perfect foundation for a cycle path, and requires minimal work.“
Posted 3 years ago # -
The red crosses show trees to be removed for construction of the cycle path and those being removed "as part of the proactive management / restructuring of the tree provision on the site", whatever that means.
