Some trees are apparently bad
Likewise some puns
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

@acsimpson no beating about the bush with you. Glad I did not make that pun on the other thread.
Destroy the `tree have updated that their sole objective is to exhort Tower Hamlets Council to Destroy the Tree they abhor any vigilante tree destruction. They are clear.
Access to the ‘sauchiebank woods’ now blocked by secure heras fencing/licked gate.
Access still possible to Duff Street lane woods east and West.
Felling /machinery at present at Duff St East. Felling seems to have been along the side of the WAR.
Don’t tell anyone but there are some glorious big old pine trees up there and acres of daffodils about to flower.
Planning permission for this goes to committee for approval again this week. Tree saga appears to be resolved.
Thanks for this link @stickman. the whole thing makes so much more sense now that i've actually looked at it all on the ground.
Do we know what the timeline for construction is, after the investigatory ground works are completed in April?
From the last T&E Business Bulletin:
• Completion of enabling works - early April 2021
• GI reporting – mid-April 2021
• Design validation – late May 2021
• Market testing and tender agreement – mid-August
2021
• Contract award – mid-September 2021
• Main works commence – mid-October 2021
• Main works complete – mid-October 2022
How civilised! This is great news. The woodland never felt like a safe place even before it was all fenced off and now it´ll be a nice place to go.
In these pandemic times, how much of a boon this would have been to the Dalrovians. They don't have much space for pleasant walks. I'd guess they would be limited to the canal, Harrison Park and the cemetery.
I just got the notification of approval from the council!
Me too
Good news. Had a quick scan of the decision notice and I can't see anything that should delay the scheme. That said, Network Rail can be pretty demanding to work with (with good reason - but working near/over a railway can end up being a logistical nightmare).
“Network Rail can be pretty demanding to work with (with good reason - but working near/over a railway can end up being a logistical nightmare).”
Indeed.
Especially when electrified (which that line is).
Not sure if this new news but looks promising regardless.
Does anyone with an ear to the ground to the council know whether “Market testing and tender agreement” took place in mid-August?
Are we on track for contract award in September?
I asked Cllr Ross when we should expect Roseburn-Canal to start construction (given the previous date of late 2021).
He said it would follow on from CCWEL so has been put back 8-9months...
Not sure when we should expect contracts to be signed in that case but I'll keep asking...
Aargh - I thought this was an 'easy one' that would get done before CCWEL, didn't realise they were part of a works pipeline.
Hopefully 2022 is a year of sudden and rapid change rather than more delay...
Not sure when we should expect contracts to be signed
Hopefully before the May council election - otherwise a Tory administration could find it very easy to cancel the project.
I'm willing to bet that in 10 years time, we'll still be talking about this "sudden and rapid change" being just around the corner...
One more wafer thin consultation...
I suspect "the works pipeline" for Edinburgh cycle projects is the true source of the Seafield Stench.
There’s an update in this month’s TEC business bulletin:
https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s41895/6.1%20-%20Business%20Bulletin_January%202022.pdf
Potential delay because of ONE objection having to be referred for ministerial decision
A Redetermination Order (RSO) was advertised in July 2021, with one objection received. Subsequent attempts to mitigate the concerns raised, to allow the objector to withdraw their objection, have proved unsuccesful. The objection has therefore been referred to Scottish Ministers for determination. If Ministers choose to hold a Public Hearing to consider the objection, this could delay the delivery of the sections of the route to which the RSO relates. However the impacts of this could be managed by scheduling delivery of these sections for later in the construction programme;
Oh Jeez! I was just getting my hopes up about that. Construction start now delayed until at least September 22 (was going to be February)
Emergency, what emergency?
Sigh.
(@Stickman - good spot).
Redetermination Orders only exist in Scotland (Section 152(2) Roads (Scotland) Act 1984). They are an extra hurdle that segregated cycle lanes proposed elsewhere in the UK do not need to jump. They are an obvious barrier to progress and should be done away with - a one line Scottish Parliament Bill could do it.
Repeat after me...
"What do we want?"
"Gradual change"
"When do we want it?"
"In due course"
I suspect its one of the people who lives in the adjacent flats off Dalry? will be interesting to see.
Or the tree folk?
