    Great news!

Had the wits scared out of me on Russell Rd yesterday by a BMW SUV driver absolutely gunning it down the middle of the road under the tram/rail bridge. All while overtaking 3 cyclists, with another 3 coming in the oppsite direction. So dangerous, given bikes often wait in the centre at the bend.

And this only a few days after a Tesla SUV did exactly the same thing (in a slightly quieter fashion, but there was still a whoosh and roar of tyres)

    So sick of this.

    But, being serious…

Does the ‘lead-in’ arrangements for the new route reduce the ability of idiots to be dangerous??

Nothing much happening on the ground near me though they have put up some signs saying cycling utopia approaches. Not roadwork signs, those plastic ones that slip over signposts.

I will watch the works with interest.

Looks like good progress on the ground works is being made on this

Retaining walls and drainage are going in at the zigzag chicanes at Sauchiebank and at Dalry park. Pavement widening and segregated lane started under the East coast mainline

    From the council's site:

    Project update 3 August 2023

Work is prgressing well in the Dallry Bridge area. From From 7 August, for a period of a few weeks, there will be preparations for the bridge supports. Unfortunately, this will cause some noise and vibration but works will be restricted to weekday working hours of 8 am – 6 pm.

Temporary traffic lights on Russell Road right now under the railway/tram bridge as they upgrade that section.

It will be nice to at least get the benefit of that wee bit whilst the rest of the work grinds on.

Watched a driver tonight drive the wrong way down Leven Tce, then turn right onto Melville Dr. Just as well there weren’t any rat runners going the other way

Roseburn-Canal is on the agenda at this Thursday's Transport & Environment Committee meeting - to approve compulsory purchase of a strip of land to enable connection of the new path to Duff St.

Sue Webber MSP’s column today is full of the usual nonsense, but she rounds it off in style by having a dig at the cost of the Roseburn-Canal project. Some chutzpah here, as she voted in favour of it and praised it as a good project.

    She has new dog

She walks it on WoL path and tries to command it by pointing.

Unless she was pointing at me which wouldn’t be an unreasonable conclusion.

    She mental.

The new pavement widening under the bridge at the bottom of the zigzag on Russell Road seems to be semi complete. It seems to have been done without dropped kerbs at the zigzag or on the other side of the bridge. Hard to access the zigzag now. Does anyone know what the plan is?

But joy was short lived. “Help us Sue, they're putting the bollards back in,” said a desperate email from an avid commuter cyclist from Currie.

This cannot be a real person. It's an absolute bloodbath on Lanark Road now, whereas before you could peacefully zip up and down on your commute without a care in the world.

Why doesn’t Sue tell them to use the WoL path??

The Dalry-Roseburn link is part of the WEF evil agenda it seems.

Used the new segregated section of the route under the rail and tram bridges on Russell Road yesterday. Disappointingly narrow for a two way route. Particularly odd as the pavement is humungous, despite there being relatively little foot traffic.

Why does the Council keep building substandard infrastructure?

“Why does the Council keep building substandard infrastructure?“

Culture/inertia, lack of sufficient political direction/interest, etc.

Personally I don't really have a problem with the width of the lane, especially given the short distance involved. What I do take issue with is that they have removed the drop kerb on the corner by the entrance to the NEPN. This mean if you are riding SE on Russell Road you have to go up a kerb to access the NEPN (or indeed the sectionof path) Antone got an e-mail address to use to complain?

Isn't that section of Russell Rd shared-use? Never clear whether it is/ever was

Yes, that bit of Russell Road was shared use. There used to be more signage, but last time I looked, I think this was the only sign left.

@stiltskin - activetravel@edinburgh.gov.uk should work (please copy in spokes@spokes.org.uk). If you don't get anywhere, let me know - I have the project manager's details somewhere.
