I’ve seen lines on maps (yes on verge).
Think it’s dropped off the ‘sometime/never’ list.
Bigger questions remain -
Should WAR have cars?
Should WAR be THAT wide?
Why, why, why???

CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

That's particularly frustrating, because:
- WAR is the only city centre road where active travel is banned, but there's no parallel alternative
- Despite this, there's a clear desire path the whole way down
- There are paths both ends
- And it's more or less just a case of building a pavement on a verge, which must be one of the simplest, most straightforward and least offensive projects a local authority can undertake
Presumably it’s in the Circulation Plan
Or not
“Has there been any plans to have a cycle path continuing alongside the WAR as far as Morrison Crescent“
Still on on-line map.
No idea if still due to be done this year.
Update
Aha
Knew I’d seen “On hold” somewhere .
There are two different maps/sets of layers on-line (and other mysteries).

Dropped kerb on Russell Rd being reinstated as per post on Save the Roseburn Path anti-tram FB group https://share.cleanshot.com/8QskJY8z
(not sure they can really take credit for it being reinstated, but :)
From the Trams to Granton thread where a Street View link was posted - realised you can get a good view of the works from the West Approach Road either side of the bridges on Russell Road and the railway, taken in June 2023.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/4P1gPJTMHzPXh9hz8
The trees being cut down was mentioned in that thread, but I'm not sure how you can do that amount of earthworks for the path and abutments whilst keeping the trees in place? Could've done with a trim anyway given the proximity to the railway.
“I'm not sure how you can do that amount of earthworks for the path and abutments whilst keeping the trees in place?”
Possibly true, whether that much was required to make a decent path is another question!
I may be wrong, I’m assuming the trees/vegetation on the Dalry side too, even though that was just an embankment(?)
You know about the Red Bridge.
Now there’s a BLUE one.
Exciting!
“
The new bridge for the Fountainbridge to Russel Road active travel link has appeared. These sections will cross the "Mid Calder Railway". Not sure if this was delivered in 2 pieces or assembled on site. @RoseburnCycle @SpokesLothian

Yep looks like the bridges are going in. Amazing.
“
I'm told the green areas do include rain gardens. Important point on maintenance - this is also going to be a big issue on the Canal-Rosebun link where there is a huge amount of planting going on without the revenue allocated to look after it long term
“
Don't think the blue bridge is going anywhere soon, until they finish the embankments leading up to the Dalry bridge.
Unless they're going to truck it around to the other side, but would be tricky to get it up the zigzag slalom they've created. They could maybe crane it over, but ££££
Can’t see this being complete by July. Haven’t seen much progress at all.
The embankments leading up to the Dalry bridge have gone in. But the blue bridge is still stuck on the wrong side, and no much other progress to be seen…
Hmmm
Also, massive traffic jams on Russell Road because drivers can’t possibly imagine “another way” while the Western Approach is closed over the next 6 weeks. Brain-less!
Project timeline now saying August 2024 before it's finished

Cllr Ross McKenzie has asked for an "updated timeline", which sounds ominous

Motion by Cllr @rsmcksg seeks
"temporary measures for walking, wheeling and cycling in the area, particularly re the crossing of Dundee Street at Gibson Terrace”
[this crossing was postponed to a later scheme]
Agreed, with report to next TEC

Roseburn - Canal Link Update:
Completion delayed until Autumn
Bridge over the Mid Calder railway line to be installed later this month.
More information here:

Project update June 2024 Construction is taking shape with lots of work underway in preparation for the final stages. We expect to finish in autumn 2024. This is slightly later than we previously stated. This is due to other vital work taking place in the area and it taking longer than expected to get plans finalised for the bridge over the Mid Calder railway line.
Work is progressing well on preparing ground levels and contorus that will transform the landscape of the project route. Drainage is also underway in all there sections of the project.

So could be as late as the 30th November then?
"The autumn" in local and central government can extend to the end of December in my experience.
Also meteorologically according to an Acturist I know. Winter Jan-March. Spring April to June - explaining these recent April showers, summer July-sept autumn October to Dec
Cycled past this yesterday (felt a tad dowdy on my way to Screwfix, in amongst all the Swifties) and the sheer scale of the project is mind boggling. The size of the switchback and massive concrete retaining walls are truly epic.
Got me thinking that this project is entirely misconceived. The short section of new segregated path could easily have been extended to Dalry Road, with a toucan crossing leading to an upgraded path behind Lidl and over the WAR. Could have been completed years ago at a fraction of the cost.
Even simpler would have been to ban through-traffic through the Muirestons and have the whole area as a low-traffic neighbourhood.
Could've been done over a few days at a fraction of a fraction of the cost
I have very mixed views on this.
That ramp is fairly absurd.
I was shocked to find the extent of the tree removal (especially after a concerted campaign that seemed to have won some concessions).
BUT getting a bridge across an active rail line is a significant achievement.
However this all needs to part of an ambitious rolling programme, which it clearly isn't!
“Even simpler would have been to ban through-traffic through the Muirestons and have the whole area as a low-traffic neighbourhood.“
ThisIsEdinburgh, not sure “simpler” is correct!
But, *could* do that as well…
Crash another bus into the bridge. Road closed. Simples.
Russell rd was closed for a year and then separately for six months for work on the main line rail bridge and the new tram bridge. It's a no-brainer that the council should have spent about £5,000 on a filter (under the west approach road with emergency vehicle access maintained?)
Instead of £17,000,000 building a 400 yard mega-path.
When you factor in the decision to remove the NEPN as an active travel route, and the decision to stop short of the canal and just deliver people to the back of the cinema complex it gets even more bewildering on a value for money basis.
It has to be seen in the context of local politicians who want to be able to show that many millions have been spent, but for whom value for money is not relevant and only preserving private motoring space is really a priority.
Does anyone know when they've scheduled to put the blue bridge in?
For the disruption / closure of the Carstairs line to install the bridge, it must be on some rail website somewhere...

@neddie - checked my usual sources and I can't see anything relevant. I suspect a new date has still to be arranged, assuming the original date was missed.
