As that is the “official opening”, is it possible it will actually be open earlier?

    Perhaps Friday??

Last night I saw the new pedestrian crossing over the West Approach Road, above the Telfer Subway. The West Approach Road may gradually turn into an actual residential street instead of a proto-motorway.

Lothian bus drivers will be sorry - that's one stretch of road when they can put their foot down.

I walked past that bit on Friday night, which is still very much fenced off on both sides along with the route through to Lidl. I then also saw the brand new section of path from the train back from Glasgow yesterday, where it looks like a lot of work was still going on for now.

Maybe the launch will be delayed and that is wh they haven’t invited @SRD yet, though she is definitely NOT going.

Can confirm it's on, it's a 'closed' event (though Soul Cycles are enquiring about that as they've been promoting it to path users via zuckerbook - they are leading the schoolkid ride / photo-op and also providing repairs stand) - as it's definitely weird to have police bike marking and Dr Bike sessions at a closed event otherwise. With any luck they throw it open a bit wider.

A pro-cycling lobby group has been paid an astonishing £260,000 per DAY by the SNP Government this year to deliver anti-car measures across Scotland.

Bristol-based Sustrans is behind ongoing works to build cycle lanes and narrow roads and junctions in towns and cities the length and breadth of the country.

SCOTTISH MAIL ON SUNDAY (of course)

I see @bakky digest links to Ali Rattan suggesting we can all join at the Russell Rd end at 1145 next Monday and cycle to Basketball Court - including @SRd

Emphasis on Ali being the one saying that (hope I didn't drop him in it; but he has already reached out to them to clarify after I went asking him).

Incidentally I thoroughly enjoyed some chap piping up in the comments on Mr Rattan's post going 'I liked it how it was', assumedly referring to the empty spaces above the rail line and Dalry Rd that he used to cycle over like Elliot in E.T.

Can’t wait for this to be open. For once, actually excited to see some infra progress in Edinburgh (albeit nothing to upset the drivers)

“Wait till they find out how much the country spends on anti-bike measures across Scotland“

    Yeah

But as we all know - ‘still not enough’

    AND

‘Too much spent on cameras, enforcement, blah blah’

Damn, makes me wish I was actually going to be here. sadly, I will be checking out the cycle infra in an un-named European capital.

Recent news headlines from my destination sound wearily familiar: "Cycling infrastructure is expanding, but lacks coherence" ... "A recent study found that the proportion of journeys undertaken by bicycle increased from 3% to 9%"...

I'll buy a pint for anyone who guesses where it is, without googling....

[We are doing our annual pre-Christmas beerfest, aren't we?]

    Paris

(Because one day I’d love to be able to cycle a hire bike from Gare du Nord to the Paris office across the city, but don’t currently feel I can due to disconnectivity)

"The study by urban planning agency Institut Paris Region (IPR) found that Parisians use bicycles for 11.2 per cent of their trips inside the city centre whereas people use cars for just 4.3 per cent of journeys.

It is a market increase from 2010 when IPR found that cycling accounted for just 3 per cent of trips in Paris."

I'll take a punt on it being Brussels. I know they have made good progress recently. It was a car infested hell hole before, so a jump from 3% to 11% seems possible, but I doubt they have a comprehensive cycle lane network yet.

Cycling is increasingly becoming an even more popular mode of transport in Brussels, in part as a result of improved infrastructure. Yet, there is still a major need for better coherence across the city's bicycle network.

"We have to keep working on this and improve the current network until everyone can get from home to work and certainly from home to school safely in Brussels," he concluded.

Confirmation from the Council via Ali Rattan that it’s an open event, so @SRD is entirely welcome to not attend after all :)

I just don't understand why, after years of updates, they've not let 'stakeholders' know about the opening.

Another year for the CPO to get the Duff Steet entrance open. Dundee Street to Canal to be delivered as part of another project that might never happen.
