The ramps are very short though. Without knowing the overall gradient I would guess it's possible to put longer shallower slopes between each flat section. It might not line up so well with the steps but that's mostly an aesthetic thing.

ISTR that the original idea was to compulsory purchase land from the edge of the garden of the office block to the west, so there would be more room, but you know... This Is Edinburgh
They could always add another crossing point but just lock the timing together, so that a given car will never have to stop more than once

Didn't know that was a possibility - interesting notion. Notably the pavements up Drysdale Rd are also designated shared use, though not especially wide.

When is a purpose built segregated cycle path not a purpose built segregated cycle path?
When it's used to park supporters' buses during the Hearts v St. Mirren game (allegedly on the instruction of the police - according to the bus drivers who weren't happy at photographs being taken).
Reported on Police 101, to be told this would be passed on to local officers, I wonder if I'll hear any more.

They're gonna destroy that cycle lane, aren't they?

The Evil Cycling Lobby has infiltrated Police Scotland to encourage drivers of heavy vehicles to park on poorly surfaced cycle infra, thus creating the business case for remedial works to a higher standard.

If it were any sooner we might give the game away.

Cllr Ross Mckenzie has written to Police Scotland about the bus parking.

Just realised I cycled illegally down the WAR last time I was there.
Coming from Morrison Crescent and wanting to avoid the hideous zigzags I thought I would would use the shared use pavement to Drysdale Road, but then it made more sense just to stick on the road as the ped crossing had just gone red.
...but in fairness there is no signage at the crossing to say No Bikes (not sure how you easily resolve that given a bike's ability to join a road pretty much anywhere).
Incidentally there seems to be a 1.5T weight limit for vehicles on the WAR (although not for buses which are famous for being lighter that 1.5T).
Half the traffic on the WAR must be breaking that?

AIUI, the original 1.5T weight limit was supposedly partly to protect the substandard road surface, but was mainly to prevent access to the road by goods vehicles for environmental reasons, those being noise, pollution and vehicle width or length. In 1974, people didn't like HGVs being on the road, and the western end of the (Temporary) WAR was tricky with sharp corners and narrow lanes. Buses weren't goods vehicles but were somehow OK though on all other counts.
And since many cars are over 1.5t these days, they aren't goods vehicles and so are allowed.
The current signage that uses diagram 626 is peculiar because it was deprecated in 1981 and diagram 622 is current.

Highway Code
240
you MUST NOT stop or park on
...
- a tram or cycle lane during its period of operation
- a cycle trackWaiting restrictions indicated by yellow lines apply to the carriageway, pavement and verge... Double yellow lines mean no waiting at any time.

May have been mentioned above but I see that the Duff St Lane access has been opened, I would guess unofficially seeing as it involves a short unsurfaced bit next to the bins.
It was being fairly well used as I passed by on a CityStrides inspired run.
