@Morningsider - thanks for the update on the no changes. I do remember being excited about this when it was originally consulted.

There should be a path along the Western Approach Road where there's a desire line, and a full crossing at Drysdale Road. All part of turning this quasi motorway into another street.

Also a proper bridge from the end of the NEPN over the train tracks to the opposite embankment. That would be a splendid sight for folk coming in from the west on trains/trams - a real twenty first century city with cyclists spinning along the route.

This was once going to be a ring road.

@jonty - Yes, that'd be sensible, but there's no indication it'll be done...

However, there is apparently a separate scheme to provide a segregated link along Gibson Terrace. Timescale unknown...

Personally I don't think there's much need for that on Gibson Terrace. Dundee St/Fountainbridge however...

@neddie Any chance you remember what it said when you tried to access the pdf?

    Definitely new plans...

The bridge now seems to be red rather than grey - everything else looks similar (from what I can tell of the blurred photos)

    @CycleAlex

The issue with the pdf resolved itself when I entered the URL with http: instead of https:

Probably something to do with our proxy / Firewall / other guff that's been added.

Anyone go to the drop in?

Hi - I went to the drop-in, as did some others from Spokes Planning Group and Cllr Corbett.
We're not clear why they aren't using the usual Consultation process.
I took some photos that should be viewable at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1XBsxKj44m6JVfvvgNpwbaS4h8ekykheA though not very good quality.

Some notes from a colleague, picking up on a few points:

The exhibition showed a plan much the same as the previous one. The main changes are:

The path going up from Russell Road starts at the junction with Sauchiebank, not some way up Sauchiebank. It has a more curvy ramp, with less sharp bends.

There will be a ramp down to Duff Street, suitable for bicycles. That will allow an approach to the streets there, whose only access is now via Dalry Road.

The main path will be shared, 4m wide everywhere, except at the Dalry Road bridge which will be only 3m wide (because of limited space between the West
    Approach Road and the tenements).

There will be a 4m-wide path alongside the WAR as far as the Morrison Link/Younger's Steps toucan, thus making a link via Melvin Walk and Gilmore
Park to Leamington Bridge. A cycle lane continues beside the WAR as far as its junction with Morrison Link (how useful it will be is questionable as cyclists can reach Morrison Link via Morrison Crescent, and you can't cycle
along the WAR, at least at present).

The design of Telfer Subway is to be confirmed at a later stage, but it is intended to keep it much as it is AND provide a toucan crossing of the WAR, with a new bridge replacing the current metal bridge leading to the southern
bus stop. Mentioned Tefler Subway's importance as a link to Caledonian Crescent and to Yeaman Place and beyond.

    - The bridge from the Roseburn path was thought to be estimated at £7m - we need to look for a benefactor!

Graeme queried, at Spokes recent Public meeting, the objective of a route to the canal and whether it was a priority. This is a very useful link and provides access along the WAR (name needs to be changed!) and also to link with routes that do cross the canal and then onward links to Meadows etc. The Canal is not seen as the ultimate destination.

Planning application notice at the Development Management Committee today:

    https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s5315/19%2002885%20PAN%20-%20Dalry%20Road.pdf

This had previously been presented to the committee in June 2016.

Update in this month’s Transport Committee business bulletin:

    https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s11613/6.1%20-%20Business%20Bulletin.pdf

The current anticipated timescale for the project involves commencing construction in June 2020, with completion programmed for April 2021.

A Major Planning Application is required to secure permission for the project to proceed. The initial Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) application (19/02885/PAN) was approved on 4 July 2019, subject to engagement with the local community being carried out and a pre-application consultation report being compiled. The PAN report was presented to Planning DM Sub-Committee on 28 August. The planning application is scheduled to be submitted by the end of November 2019 with a maximum 16-week determination period. Therefore, the application is expected to be determined by the end of March 2020.

@Stickman. That's very good news. It's a really exciting project for walkers as well as cyclists. It gives Dalryers and Gorgiers more leisure space.

    What about Rosebunnies?

To quote the former MCC member responsible for planning "it will attract the wrong sort of people"

Perhaps MCC can appeal to “it’s people” to stay on the wrong side of the tracks...

@chdot Rosebunnies have got a good sized park. Murraybatters (geddit?) have their own gardens.

And I should have said Dalryders and Gorgias or Tynecastlesiders.

Dalryders could be from Game of Thrones.

"it will attract the wrong sort of people"

Are those the types of people who spend money in shops without being able to park their German mark automobile directly outside?

They do seem terrified of the prospect of passing trade from anything smaller than a van.

I know it’s more than just a path (with bridges), but “Value £5 million”.

Value, probably - but cost too. Is there funding in place for the whole thing?

£5m? That could buy you 58m of M74 extension!

Seems to be one of the few projects that actually has/will have confirmed funding - "A multi-year funding agreement is in the process of being agreed with Sustrans"

    Looks amazing.

But hurry up and crack on and build it!

It's been 4 years (possibly longer) since this was first mooted.

Current construction ETAs are Nov/20 - Nov/22, hopefully delays in submitting the planning application won't hold it up further!

Cool looking pics and I'm really pleased that this is opening up some space for Dalriders and Gorgons.

@CycleAlex - how did you find out about this project page? I'm wondering if it's been there for a couple of months.

Looks good. Bridges over Slateford railway line and Dalry Road.
No bridge over Edinburgh to Glasgow line as far as I can work out. Or is that future plan?

@Rosie The good people of SkyscraperCity.

No bridge over Edinburgh to Glasgow line
@LaidBack Apparently that bridge alone would cost something ludicrous like £7m.

@laidback this route links to the tunnel under the railway line. Is there a pavement there? On the east side? Once out tunnel pavement up to Russell road ramps i guess

As far as I recall Network Rail wouldn't permit anything which wasn't essentially an enclosed tunnel through the sky far above their wires and track, in case anyone tried to stop or dangle anything.
