On Stedfastgate earlier I was flagged down by a ped who had retrieved a handful. I pushed for a bit and recovered at least 20 and a cyclist heading the other vway stopped to assist. Looked deliberately spaced and may well be some left in the mulch so be careful...

From where the WoL path brushes alongside Connaught Place, there's spur heading off to Victoria Park, just east of and across from the spur to St Mark's Park. There's a sign somewhere on the old red sandstone viaduct abutment saying "Stedfastgate".

    Drawing pins? Not good!

Stedfast/Steadfast is a Boys' Brigade thing, isn't it? There's a memorial of some sort there and Pollock Pavilion (their local HQ) is just nearby on Ferry Road.

Not entirely sure, though. I was a Scout :-)

Yes you're correct about the link between the BB and the place name. The remains of the fountain on the old bridge embankment were erected on the site as a 100 year anniversary memorial to the BB and the site was landscaped and named in their honour. There's a big red iron plaque on the remaining bridge masonry with the details.

The fountain was removed from Princes Street in 1926 where it had been to provide water for carthorses, to make way for tramworks (where have we heard that before!) and was put in storage by the Corporation, being lost to time until some parts were much later on re-discovered amongst piles of other monumental masonry that the council had filed away and forgotten about.

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure whilst the billows roll

From the hymn Will your anchor hold?

    The boys brigade anthem

I was doing well at my pal's dad's funeral until I had to sing that

Mulch too heavy on path from rose burn to black hall to spot an tacks I am afraid
