Judging by the number of people getting on the evening trains at Dalmeny to cross the bridge, I reckon many of them must have driven a car round from Fife at the weekend so they can transfer to it in Dalmeny/SQ for the remainder of their commute to work. I know at least one of my neighbours does exactly that. Can't really blame them in the circumstances if they are heading somewhere that's difficult to reach by public transport, but it's no excuse for poor or illegal parking.

There was a mention of extra staff at Ingliston P&R for the Stagecoach/Trams interchange but I didn't see anything (though didn't look) mentioning extra overnight security at park and ride sites for people who might find it more convenient to invert their usage during the bridgeless times.

Must be a different Amey...

The incident happened just a day after council contractors Amey fitted a new central heating system in the Currie council house.

Seen a fairly long set of coaches with a large locomotive at each end this morning while going down the tram path to Balgreen. I'd not seen this before so I presume its part of the extra capacity.

I trust all regular FRB cycle commuters have emailed their MSP complaining about the vague reasoning for the current full restriction, which may well continue well into the new year, and offering various examples of how ped/cyclist access could be accommodated, in support of the modal shift that we all know needs to happen.

The priority A985 route between Rosyth and Kincardine, which has so far been reserved for HGV and bus traffic, will now be open to all light goods vehicles around the clock, beginning Monday

I saw that, or one like it at Haymarket at midday. A fair old hotchpotch of coaches; looked like they had been raiding some railway museums.
I thought it might be a sprs special at first. Being pulled by an EWS locomotive. It was sitting empty when I saw it, possibly on platform zero.

Ah, that makes more sense than my wife's coleague's theory that these were all people commuting from the Lothians to work in Fife.

Judging by the Railscot website, they've pulled together a rake of 7 various old Mk.II coaches in old Virgin and Anglia colours and are running these as a shuttle service with an EWS-liveried Class 67 locomotive at each end (that's far too much power, but it means the locomotive doesn't need to be reshuffled to the end of the coaches at the end of the line to turn around).

TS trying to outweigh the economic damage elsewhere by giving the Fife van hire industry a record year?

It was stabled in platform 0 of Haymarket about an hour ago. I watched it motoring under the Stenhouse bridge as I pedalled over it. Several Mk2s, I noticed, and surmised they were for adding capacity.
Wonder if it was this one:

“Clearly the closure of the bridge has had a significant impact, particularly on small and medium sized businesses, and we and our transport partners have been listening to business community views since the travel plan was implemented.

Since the late 1990s, a bridge strengthening and replacement programme has been ongoing and due for completion by 2020, allowing 40-44 tonne HGVs to continue to use all trunk road bridges without weight or traffic restrictions. Where bridges are yet to be strengthened or replaced they are subject to a monitoring regime to ensure they remain safe to use.

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to help businesses reeling from the closure of the Forth Road Bridge.
Transport chiefs shut the vital crossing a week ago to carry out essential repairs, causing festive takings to plummet in South Queensferry.
But now Marketing Edinburgh has joined forces with the city council to revive the ailing fortunes of the area’s hotels, shops and restaurants.

BUSINESS representatives have called for greater certainty on when the Forth Road Bridge will reopen amid fears small firms could struggle to secure short-term financial support.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in Scotland raised concerns that firms may not be able to get help from banks unless there is clarity on the issue.
The bridge is due to reopen in the New Year after repairs to a crack in the structure but engineers say progress is “vulnerable to weather conditions”.
Colin Borland, the FSB’s head of external affairs in Scotland, said many small businesses relied on a busy December to pay for the quieter January and February months.

SCOTRAIL’S acute shortage of trains has been laid bare in official figures which show that its busiest services carry more than twice as many passengers as there are seats.
The revelation comes as the operator is being stretched to the limit by having to switch carriages from other routes to run longer trains between Fife and Edinburgh because of the Forth Road Bridge closure.

In a different parallel universe
SCOTRAIL's gross inefficiency has been laid bare by the scotsman as we reveal that trains run 90% empty for 15 hours of the day.
The revelation comes as the operator is being criticized by <the oppositon> for running too many services during off peak periods.
The railways are run on a balance and if you have excess supply at peaks that means you have grossly excessive stock the rest of the day...
Posted 9 years ago # -
In an ideal universe there would be more capacity at peak times to make travelling more pleasant and allow for 'mode switching'.
Might be good if off-peak fares were a lot less too.

Proposition suggested at Xmas tree festival this afternoon. If forth estuary transport authority was still going and tolls were still being collected, would more regular maintenance have occurred?

There are so many politically motivated claims and counter-claims and different interpretations of "facts" by politicians without two engineering degrees to rub between them.
Suffice to say it's the people dangling under the bridge on safety ropes in the winter weather with welding torches in their hands who're actually going to get the bridge fixed and no amount of hot air from either side is going to help them along.
Inquiries are better held impartially and in retrospect once all the facts are assembled and understood, not based on "documents" circulating on twitter or politically motivated briefings to the Johnston Press.

Got a reply to my email to Cara Hilton. She's written once again to Derek Mackay pressing for access to the bridge. I'm not holding out much hope and suspect she'll get the same prepared response 'live site' etc.
