Here's a cool summary of my cycling for the year from Veloviewer. It feeds from strava data.

A demonstration that even if your only cycling is a short commute and you only save data for half a year, you still go a surprisingly long way...

I had a wee jaunt through the Alps from Nice to Geneva. Things got a bit spiky...

I joined this in earnest earlier in the week. A little feature that really appeals to me is the explorer, best explained here and here and by someone of this parish - here

My exploring is a bit hamstrung by the Forth and as such I have 2 separate squares of 5x5 on either side of the river- either I get a canoe or will have to try to accept that they aren't going to meet up.

In 2 days since discovering this, I have visited 4 squares for the first time, all less than 5 miles from home.- 3 were roads which I wouldn't normally choose to ride along + a failed attempt at a tile which is only within fenced off land in Rosyth Shipyard), but the 4th contained a tiny bit of headland that juts out from near Braefoot Oil Terminal. It was an effort to get the bike down there but it was lovely and well worth it, and all done in a 45 min lunch ride from home.

Planning a detour on the way home to turn my 5x5 into a 6x6 and then some lunch rides from work to expand it further as well.

If interested you can get a sample of your (25?) most recent activities on Strava, or for a £10 subscription, you can apply your entire Strava History.

I've got a bit stuck with the explorer square and seem to have maxed out at 10x10 with the Forth & Pentlands forming natural barriers.

I do like the explorer tiles score - how many unique squares you can visit. Currently on 2000 for this year but still well below my 2015 total of 2,943. The out and back LEL route doesn't help.

This is my summary over all strava time:
5730 tiles, average of 5.478 mi per tile
    Max square 9x9
    Max Cluster: 258
I clearly need to do more mountain biking to burst through the Pentland, Moorfoots and Lammermuir barriers to get a big max square.
So far this year, I've cycled through 2,645 unique tiles (a PB) and added about 1000 completely new ones to me in the last 12 months.
I think visiting new tiles probably relates better to happiness than KOMs (that's my excuse).

Ian MR- go to the activities tab which defaults to list. Turn that off and turn on maps.

Also you get a summary in the summary. Plus also in the summary the second graph down can be changed to show stats over time on explorer tiles

@amir - just spotted you can get club leaderboards for the metrics on the summary tab.

Of those in CCE's Strava club & on Veloviewer (Pro), you & I seem to be battling it out for most of the top explorer spots.

On the overall largest explorer square, there is 1 person on 11x11, me on 10x10 & you on 9x9 with 2 others. Makes me wonder about getting the 3 missing tiles I need to get to 11x11.

Veloviewer has revealed that compared to 2014 my annual distance has increased by over 2000 miles but that my average speed is down by 2mph.
    Could this be down to:
    - type of rides done
    - long-distance riding vs club riding
    - getting old and decrepit
    - CBA (esp on commutes)

    @amir

riding more with your other half?

Joined veloviewer pro a month ago and am out trying to visit new squares in the map - gives me another reason to get lost, not that I needed it.

Target for year end is to join up my Fife cluster of squares visited with the Stirling cluster and the Edinburgh/Lothians cluster (work to be done in the Devilla area and also south and West of Kincardine.

Have you noticed that you can download the missing squares in and around your max cluster into a KML file? This can then be loaded into Google Maps and shared.

This function is found by clicking the red KML link on the summary page in the Activity Stats box

Yes have seen that is really useful.

Leaderboards are useful too - can also view some other riders' clusters to see how they have got to tricky squares.

How can you see other riders' clusters?

On the summary page click on leaderboards.

Then click on the dropdown to select Explorer(max cluster). Go to your various clubs and you will see some riders highlighted in red- they have made their data publicly available.

If you want to share your cluster (I don't)

On the Update page- click Show Options and then click share my data with everyone.

If I could just share with my Strava friends, I would...

I can get this far, but I can't figure out how to see the actual data.

Sorry, I should be clearer. I click on their names, I can see their data, I can't figure out how to see "how they have got to tricky squares."

EDIT: Got it - Activities tab, then Map view. Seems obvious now...

A relatively short but well aimed saunter into Midlothian this morning took me from a 6x6 to a 8x8 square.

Work's done for the year :) Now to find 4 more days on the bike to hit my 300 days. 1 will be this obvs.

This year's chart is quite warped due to LEL & associated training.

Annual target and revised target achieved.

Only challenge left is whether to try and catch HankChief's annual distance - its pretty close.

Next year's target will be around active days - lower than I expected.

I still do not quite understand the tiles thing.

I took my max square to 12x12 today; this seems to put me top of the CCE table.
