Fab cycle in this morning. wish it had been longer. Guess homeward bound will be tougher, but the sun felt brilliant from the front, and the wind felt great on my back :)

I believe a singlespeed fanboy has been born.

I'm seriously considering eschewing mudguards for my new DayOne and spending the money on having a large fluffy white patch of fur affixed to my bottom; I feel that much like a deer on it.

Lots of camaraderie in the changing room at work at going home time. We all knew that we were possibly doing something a bit silly, and it's noticeable how many people put lights and hi-viz on.

Anyway, it wasn't as rainy as it looked from indoors, and I got pushed along the towpath by this amazing steady strong wind. The towpath was deserted, and on the straight bits with clear sight lines it was possible to reach quite satisfactory speed.

...and on the way in this morning I cycled toward a rainbow the whole way.

I had a lovely ride today thanks.

I've just been out testing my £40 Gumtree hybrid/spare on lumpy cobbly streets.

Different from normalbike, but much better over manky surfaces. It's highly enjoyable to ride just because of the bargain aspect but with its fatter tyres it'll be a much better load-carrier and also very useful in winter as a snow-capable spare.

As working at home this am, I took the opportunity to have a commute up into the moors by gladhouse. The light was wonderful, nice too much wind, lovely. Now I am eating a mince pie :)

    Hi,

I met a nice chap this morning on the ride in. Tom has recently moved up from Cambridge, like me, and now works at Sustrans in Haymarket. Hi Tom if you on here and reading this, cheers for chumming me in to Craigleith, good to meet you.

Me again... (this is getting like a mini blog)

I had a lovely ride in this morning. Setting off early to get to Peter's Yard at the old Infirmary in Edinburgh I left the house at 06.30 to cycle to the Airport Park n Ride to meet Steve to cyle in with. I rode through Inverkeithing and over the Forth Road Bridge. From South Queensferry I headed south to Kirkliston where I picked up the cycle path to Newbridge. Its been Tarmaced to ~400m north of Newbridge, where the road goes under it, so was a pleasure to ride along. I was ~20 mins late (good planning?) and arrived at 07.10 so just left and headed into the City on my own. The road from Newbridge to Mulburry Casino is nice and smooth and quite flat, and with a tail wind I flew along. I was soon flip floping with a bus where it stopped and I overtook only to have it catch me slightly further on etc.. I arrived at PY at 07.45, now bad, must be the tail wind.

@DaveC That is my winter route (except on the road), big roads, so well lit, and well gritted.
The road from Crammond past QE yards is a scary place at night, and the A90 cycle path (with my eyes at least) un-navigable on the way home due to glare.

As it is a much flatter route, despite it being two miles longer than the A90/QE yards route, I do it in the same time as the shorter route as there are no hills to go over.

[EDIT] Ah, forget all of that I just read your other post!

It was a fast ride in from Newbridge in as the wind was behind me. Apparently its a pain going the Opp way.

I still occationally ride the road past Craigies and the road is widen enough to allow cars past. The A90 is ok coming into town as there is no glare, and going the opp way can be edgey due to glare but people with STUPID yellow dark blinkies coming towards you along there I agree can be dodgy. I have also ridden through the Dalmeny estate which is dead quiet, but has a drop down to sea level and back up in both directions.

Hills are nothing to be afraid of, they are good training aids.

Was out on the Whang with my vegan friend joe today freezing sunny calm lovely. Our childminder asked our son what joe's second name was. He said Levy, the childminder asked if he was Jewish and our daughter said no, he was vegan. The childminder asked what a vegan was and our son whispered it was someone who hadn't had sex.

Joe The Vegan also very technologically minded. Had nifty Garmin on the bike I lent him and was very pleased to clock some 30mph plus speeds on return along The Whang. He is recent convert to road bikes. It was such a great day for a spin, maybe passed a dozen other cyclists all but two nodding, smiling and saying hello.

I had a great ride today, lovely crisp, cold, frosty start with the sun shining all day and no wind. Went out along the coastal route, it is true they are doing something to the road outside the mining museum, lordy, hallelujah. Followed the road until the Longniddry turn off, then followed the B1377 past Ballencrieff, almost into Drem, turned off towards Athelstaneford, and had a lunch stop at Merryhatton Garden centre. Came back skirting Haddington, to Tranent (tea stop), Musselburgh, Brunstane and home. Fab, fab, fab...I think I caught the sun and the bonus; getting home at about quarter to five and it was still light....just great.

I took a longer ride home last night in good time, to be expected as I had a tail wind over the bridge:

This morning I rode in and was cought at the start of the FRB buy a Dunfermline CC rider, Hi Neil if you read this, and spent the next 55 mins dieing keeping up with Neil. I think this is the fastest ride I've done into work along the cycle path:

I'm just going to take it easy the rest of the week as I want to get 100km on Sunday round Fife and Clackmananshire.

I passed the 3000 mile milestone on my bike computer. Chuffed, only another 700 to go before the bike cost a mere 10p per mile.

Nice trip out to Aberdour today with Spokes riders. Stunning views across the Forth, sunshine, not too cold, not much wind. Good meal in a hotel restaurant where the dining room is a former ship's cabin from a vessel which used to ply a route to Australia.

Yesterday Lyndsey and I cycled just out to Musselburgh, only ~20 miles, probably not enough distance to offset the scones...

...we went via Duddingston Loch to look for the famous otters, but didn't spot any.

We did spot a group of 10 or so cyclists, first on the canal in a huddle at Leamington bridge, then later on the Innocent cycle way. I wonder if it was anyone here!

I had a nice ride yesterday thanks. Took the fixed gear out to musselburgh on to longniddry up to pencaitland - dalkeith and back to Edinburgh. Broke a spoke in pencaitland and made it home with a wobbly front wheel. Saw quite a few cyclists out and about. Best quote from some red faced peds on the shared use path at musselburgh that looked like they'd been dooking for chips with a fag in their mouths.... him " Quite a lot of bikes out today..." her " Aye I was just gonnae say that ...bunch o F***ing a***holes".....

Not sure what they do when the loch is mainly frozen over. I'm off on Thursday afternoon and should have an hour or so free - pondering where I can get to after dropping my invalid back off at the house to see some wildlife.

Might just opt for a ride to Musselburgh - plenty to see off the sea wall *off to check the tide timetables*

I had a lovely ride in to work today. The only downside was that I wore gloves, rather than mitts, and iTunes was in a bizarre mood. Seemed to have found some Appalachian folk music when i was going up MMW; sorry for that students (my iPhone is mounted to my handlebars for Runkeeper, so music is out of the speakers; a bit tinny but it can be entertaining).

They're a bit more sardonic across in Fife. On the coastal path we passed the same gent walking his dog and grandchildren twice, on the way out and back. I commented "Afraid there are more of us still to come" as I approached, he quipped "Too many to argue with".

    WOW!!! just wow..

Dry frost and dense fog in Fife. All through until I got to Dalmeny est. Met the site manager (or perhaps owner??) on his Dawes expedition cycling from Dalmeny to Dalmeny estate. Nice chap. Then as we parted at the house the fog disapeared and I was basking in clear skies, frosty woodlands and frosty dry woodland tracks. Beautiful scenery, and topped off as I climbed out of the woods onto a meadow to be met with the sun just topping out on the horizon with a deer nearly silouetted on the horizon. It stood still but to watch me as I rode round it about 75m away. Then later on the path which divides Bruntsfield Links Golf course and Royal Burgess Golf course, looking south onto the Royal Burgess course I saw another deer in the middle of a frosty deserted green. On the ride in along the path from Silverknowes to Craigleith, the path was frosty with odd bark icey patches and I saw a few cyclists on slick(ish) ~25 tyres slipping along. I felt planted on my Snow Tyres. It was so cold and moist in places Rymen ice was building up on my arms.
