Got out for an hour at lunch-time today as I'd not had the chance to get out at the weekend. Beautiful weather, quiet roads; saw a kestrel and two buzzards.

Managed to sneak out for an hour this morning, a quick errand to pay a bill then back via a geocache I've been meaning to look for, unfortunately my gps battery was flat but I was able to pace out the distances described for the cache and find it anyway B-) followed by a nice ride homein the sun :-)
An absolutely glorious little ride out :-) (and lucky if it was five miles all in lol)

It's rather nice to be riding in the light on quiet roads. Also no headwind today, so I didn't regret taking the high geared fixed, like I have done on many mornings before.

Light and, even better sun, is wonderful on a morning's commute to raise the spirits.

Lovely cycle this morning, if a bit chilly. Is that why I resent the excessive office temperature when I get in? Honestly, every radiator except mine on full.

Nice ride this morning, no rain, little wind and light by the time I set off at 6.30, so all good.

Only downside was that my hybrid bike is back and roadworthy again. It would seem that two weeks on my road bike has spoiled me somewhat and I'd forgotten that the commute is a wee bit tougher on the more upright and heavier bike....

"two weeks on my road bike has spoiled me somewhat"

So you saying your road bike is more suitable but less suitable(?)

Is that because of lack of mudguards or because it would be more expensive to use/maintain per mile?

I'm not sure I'd have stuck at it if I'd listened to "good" advice and bought a more "sensible" bike.

The road bike is more suitable from a speed perspective, but less suitable due to lack of mudguards, panniers etc. I wasn't too keen on using the road bike every day on the terrible roads in town and in all weathers.

Its all relative. My commuting bike is much faster than my mountain bike with slicks on and much more practical. If I'd not used the road bike I'd have been none the wiser!

I have had two whole days off cycling due to work trips so today I extended the commute to include the lovely Tranent and Prestonpans, passing over the col de Carberry. It was lovely up top, spring is in full flow.

I've noticed that I want to write up every commute that I do on my old iron horse. It's not such much a classic as just old, it's heavy, the brakes are squeally and rubbish, but it's so nice to ride.

Finally figured out why Kappers takes what has always looked to me like a big honking detour to get out Gylish; the greenways of Corstophine are a bit good, aren't they?

Also lovely view of a sunny wet city as I came down Thingy C-something Steep Road Parallel to Kaimes.

    Endorphins are noice.

I wasn't particularly early this morning but had started off with a detour to find a postbox and have a look at the site of the former Seafield path bridge so carried on to Newhaven then up the NEPN to Roseburn. Fountainbridge was a bit unpleasant but mostly people were behaving.

I do miss going that way, I really enjoyed getting a decent stretch from Manse Road all the way to Roseburn only limit is the state of ones legs. Since we've moved office I come along Gorgie and rarely spin out on my low geared ss.

What gorgeous weather for cycling this weekend! After a good run yesterday on the TdM, my wife pooled around St Andrews.

Following my recent bereavement I,ve been thinking about doing a charity ride. Thing is I've never ridden in a group before. So today I joined in the CTC easy run. Turned into a very pleasant pootle indeed. Sun came out, route was interesting and company good. Going to work my way up from easy to more challenging rides. Thanks to Liz, Peter and all the rest of thr gang for a good day out.

@tammytroot - and thank you for joining us and I am glad to read that you had an enjoyable day. The weather was kind to us and I hope cycling in a group was not too daunting, it is quite different from riding solo. See you next month - 3rd Sunday of every month. You commute every day I gather so getting up to the next stage... the Easy Sunday run which is 40 miles at not a desperately fast pace.

Lovely ride around the Forth today. Very light winds meant that the expected slog through Culross to Kincardine didn't materialise. Run along the south shore through Grangemouth and Bo'ness was very pleasant with the sun out and the traffic light. Nice stop at Brian's Cafe in Bo'ness for a bacon roll and then a wee bit of a hill out of Bo'ness and along to the bridge back over the river and home for a cuppa.

Pleasant trip out along the Forth to Charlestown this morning with the family. Lots of other cyclists about, I noted. Perfect weather, not too hot, but dry, not much wind and sunny. Slightly chillier on the return leg but still a very enjoyable day out.

We had a lovely day yesterday, cycling in Tentsmiur and sound like we just missed Mr and Mrs Adrian in St Andrews. We had lunch in Tentsmuir picnic site and I left Josie relaxing reading the paper and took our two boys uptowards Tayport on the forest tracks. There was a dog sledding event but we didn't spot anyone from there apart from the time keeper on one of the gates.

After that we rode to Leuchas on the coastal path and in places its very difficult and I would recomend riding along the road back to Leucas instead of the lumpy boggy ground towards the north end of the runway. We planned to ride to St Andrews but Camie was tired and was taking ages to cross the lumpy grassy land to Leuchas so we caught up with Josie and Louis in Leuchas and drove the rest of the way.

After that we had diner in Pizza Express with the other zoo animals ... er I mean children and their parents :D

DaveC - we went along the road as we has narrow tyred bikes. We did actually follow the NCN 1 until by Tentsmuir (that's interesting at Guardbridge!). Very pleasant and not very hilly (though very chilly) - just what Mrs amir likes. Unfortunately the cafe at Tayport harbour was closed though. Once back at St Andrews, I went off for a short run, to justify a hearty lunch, up to Pitscottie going via Ladeddie (wonderful view) and Strathkinness on the way back.

Mr fimm dusted off his road bike yesterday and we had a lovely cycle out through Kirknewton and up some back road from Winchburgh past Binny Crag and round in a loop and back. I'd never been on that particular road before, it had a good climb in it... Lots of cyclists about!

Went home via towpath to Ratho tonight, tons f cyclists out. Headwind strong, sunshine sweet. The tailwind along Long Dalmahoy Rd was almost worth it.

Out east this morning, with the grand total of planning being "Best be back home by 1, so when I'm halfway through my time I'd head home"

Started well, with a chance meeting with Spitters, who was on nursemaid duties. Thankfully not in the outfit.

Pootled through town and thence to Porty, Musselburgh and ran out of outward time at Cockenzie. Decided I wanted a rural vibe for the homeward stretch, pleasant as the wee coastal towns had been, so went back via Tranent and Dalkeith.

Learning from my mistake on Saturday, I took a map, although since it's me and I'm an idiot, I took one of my beloved old ones. I have a weakness for badly out of date maps and no interest in new ones, so the only one I had with the right scale for the trip was printed before the bypass existed. Not actually a big problem given the roads I was taking, but finding the cycle route from Dalkeith into town was a pleasant surprise. The route I had sketched out wasn't anything like as carless.

Spotted en route: hipster who put my hipster efforts to shame. No brakes, jeans showing off his punders, messenger bag he couldn't control, retro-look but plainly new cap. Oh, and: young.

Chap on a TT impressively aero bike in the pursuit posture. Wasn't going fast, just covering a great deal of distance over a very short time, if you get the distinction. The bike was all fugly decals and carbon ghastliness, but my inner engineer hound was drooling at the smell of efficiency wafting from each iceskatingly smooth stroke.

Three riders in a row, each taking the tiny one out for a spin. Cheery hellos to and from. Awww.

Four roadies on a fast pootle. More cheery hellos.

Chap near Elphinstone who passed me as I was checking my map and deciding whether the overgrown ditch under the bridge I'd just crossed was the in-use railway listed on the map. Saw him twenty minutes later and cheerily said 'ooh, hello again' Nothing but steely stare in return. I will declare him as tourist and not Anglophile before I condemn as guffhead.

Was on the single speed. Certainly glad of that on the hills, but I think I need to get drops on it; right elbow, which is one of the three major joints that powerlifting has ruined, doesn't seem to like being in the one position for three hours.

More or less perfect day for me; I am part walrus and cannot abide the heat, but it needs to be below freezing before more than a single layer is comfy unless I'm pootling, so the cooling wind was ideal.

Might take my single speed out east when we get another spell of fine, dry weather. Alas working indoors all day today! :-(

Thought I needed to put a few miles in the legs what with the Nippy Sweetie looming. So extended the commute home from Colinton to Porty to include Fairmilehead, Lasswade, Eskbank, Whitecraig, Stawberry Corner, Musselburgh.

Lovely conditions for a cycle. Sunshine with a cool breeze.

    Nice and sunny, no wind!

Went round most of path in Meadows/Links looking for "No Cycling" signs.

Cycled at various speeds (mostly below 10mph) depending on how many pedestrians were around. No bother. No 'you shouldn't be here, haven't you seen the signs' vibes.

With a single speed as sexy as yours crow, I'd lower my conditions to 'when the team of wild horses dragging me away from the Kowal had run out of hollowpoint ammo, for they are horses of gun' but maybe that's just me.
