Politicians seem to like visiting local industries, so get them to visit some local bicycle-related industries
Ruth, in a tank, outside Laidback?
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Perhaps a green/camo velomobile.
A recumbent tandem for the SNP dragging one of those triangular-section advertising things, so they can still have plenty of glossy logos and posters on display? A velomobile made up to look like a helicopter, perhaps.
"ActivelyTravel On Administration?"
Now there's an idea.
Just wish I could think of something more 'understandable' than ActiveTravel or neater than Walking and Cycling.
If we are 'stuck' with AT, then need to highlight the walking/pedestrian part - and the public transport connection - with things like pedestrian crossings to get to bus stops, pavements to Haymarket etc.
Humanity on Heidyins.

Out of 5 #sp16 leaflets just arrived, only @JimEadieSNP @theSNP mentions #ActiveTravel and investment in #cycling

5 #sp16 leaflets thru the door just now. only @Ruth_E_Davidson @scotTories fails to mention her party …
In any cycling-vs-motoring debate, cyclists will be seen as the minority. I think sometimes we're too keen to push cycling when we should instead leverage our pedestrian majority.
For example, instead of arguing for cycle lanes on George Street, we could argue for removing parking based on a minority creating a hostile environment for the majority (count shoppers vs parked cars). Once the parking and associated traffic is gone, adding a cycle lane is a much smaller request.
I guess what I'm saying is, in the current climate we can't expect politicians to be clammering for the cyclist vote, promising cycle lanes everywhere, etc. But if we vote for the ones who understand that cars are the problem (rather than lack of space for them), conditions will improve for cycling.
Just been listening to Gordon Brewer's RScot politics show.
Patrick Harvie talked the most general sense (as opposed to party bickering).
On the NHS he talked about 'capturing the food chain from big business' and 'getting more activity' (think he said the AT words).
Brewer moved things on swiftly having already set his agenda by saying 'I'm sure you all want to spend billions more on the NHS'.
It would be a brave politician indeed who went on the record saying "actually, we'd like to spend less on the NHS in the medium-long term because we'd like to invest more in the short-term keeping people more active, healthy and less exposed to incapacitating pollutants".
"It would be a brave politician indeed who went on the record saying "
Yes.
But WHY would it??
Apart from 'normality mindset'?
Clearly there are 'vested interests' you don't challenge (unless you are Jeremy Hunt).
The ScotTory on, Jackson Carlaw, didn't even go for 'save money, slash the middle management' - but he was confident enough to tackle some interest groups by saying 'some small hospitals will have to close'.

What was once Labour’s safest constituency in Edinburgh has arguably become the SNP’s biggest stronghold.
But Kenny MacAskill, who won Edinburgh Eastern back in 2007, has retired from the parliament.
And Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale is her party’s candidate here, making it a high-profile contest.
The new SNP candidate is Ash Denham, former head of campaigns for left-wing think tank Common Weal.
She says she is getting a “very warm reception” from voters. “It’s looking very positive”.

That will be an interesting one in view of -

has arguably become the SNP’s biggest stronghold.
I take it they mean "in Edinburgh"? The respected incumbent vs. upstart thing didn't help Sheila Gilmore at the last election (Edinburgh East and not Eastern, I know...).
Kenny Mackaskill took the seat on 37.4% with a big swing. He kept it in 2011 on 47.4% with a big swing. Tommy Sheppard got 49.2% at the GE on a mahoosive swing. It would certainly be a shockeroonie if Kez reversed that particular trajectory.
chdot - Jackson Carlaw - you wouldn't buy a used car off him. Mainly because the two used car firms he ran went bust.

Hm. The examples listed are university tuition fees and increased disability benefits. Not sure that can really create a "left wing" politics on its own. SNP decidedly "right wing" when it comes to economy, tax, transport policy. Whether their voters are any more "left wing" on these issues is not revealed by the article, but given that the results are based upon a self-selecting group rather than representative sample, I think they need to be treated with suitable scepticism.
Here's the site they used for this headline:
Word back from the streets in Fife (I think Cara hilton's seat at the mo) undecided voter said she was away to watch Gary tank commander interviews and use that to make up her mind how to vote.
Cara Hilton's a big support of POP.

Numbers have been updated!
Meanwhile in Northern Ireland they seem to be having rather more success getting their politicians engaged http://www.cyclinguk.org/blog/nigreenways/northern-ireland-experiencing-cycling-surge

Brompton M6L with the earlier model of brake levers and the handlebar stubby extension thing.
Shame she got silver extremities. They should really be black although the Common Wheel reduced the blackness of my S6L by sticking wee hearts on it.
"Shame she got silver extremities"
Presume it's her own bike?
She's the only one in the photo without a helmet.
I had noticed the millinery but that's a different thread.
She was married to Pat Kane who doesn't hold a driving licence and can often be seen on the Coatbridge train. He also wrote the foreword to Deep Fried Hillman Imp. I was in the traffic jam following the crash he talks about and saw the remains of the Ford Focus.

I think she can drive, I've got a feeling she has mentioned a Mini in her columns.
Not holding one doesn't seem to stop Mr Kane doing gigs all over the UK but I assume they have roadies and a Tranny.
Hue and cry have a tranny?
Pat and Joan fell out big style
Think I cycled through her constituency yesterday, well saw a poster for her.
I've had a rootle through the leaflets dropped through my door.
The only one that mentions transport is the LibDem one for Hannah Bettsworth, and that is the "Roseburn Cycle Path solution" (ie oppose the route through Roseburn Terrace.
The tranny is a staple of rock and roll life in Scotland. See Tutti Frutti for example.
Sparks didn't have one in Glasgow a few years ago. They had a VW Transporter but then Russell and Ronald always followed their own path.
I didn't see Bad Manners two years ago because their bus broke down on the M6. As a result I have no idea what kind of vehicle is required for Mr Bloodvessel. I would guess it's not small.
Aw you mean a ford transit? I thought the curious blend of left wing politics, fighting siblings and west of Scotland white boy soul had taken another turn.
I sort of like pat Kane, he writes in a language related to English but with more made up sociology words. Capable musician and there is a slight chance that unlike the majority of the Indy left (-and to be fair most other politicians) he has a dawning realisation of how ridiculous he can he. Though the three women and Patrick Harvie put up a good attempt with Gary tank commander.
@WFB - that's my Brompton she's riding - I'm sorry it doesn't live up your high standards. It was a birthday present (second hand) so I didn't have much say in the details - it has since been accessorised with a Brooks B17 and a POP placard. She did ask to borrow a helmet but it was too big for her so I persuaded her not to bother.
