Thought it might be useful to have a thread about cycling to the cinema, and associated faff like finding somewhere to put the bike.

To kick us off, does anyone know if the Dominion (a) has a cloakroom, and that (b) might accommodate a Brompton? I know there isn't any bike parking outside, and I'm planning an evening visit.

I could walk, but it'd take about 35 minutes which is so slow, and as long to get home again at very dark o'clock. I don't 'do' buses, mainly because it costs money when I could cycle for 'free'.

There is a railing over the stairs to the right of the Dominion that I locked my folder to last week. Not much help, perhaps. I suppose if I was worried, I would lock it at Waitress?

There are a couple of Sheffield racks on the corner opposite Captain Grunpy's lens shop.

All the racks at the Cameo were busy on Awakening day evening. In the daytime I'd use the Biketrax rail but didn't fancy even the sparebike there for three hours in the dark, so just went to the railings opposite the King's.

If any cinema had a cloakroom it would be the dominion. It has a very tiny private room you can hire they could doubltless lock your bike in if they were minded. Also if you are going for their sofas you could take the Brompton in. Expect phoning them is the way forward.

You will enjoy Star Wars assuming that is the movie you are off to see? It is nearly identical to the first one.

Yes, Star Wars it is. :-)

And walk/bus it is, on this occasion anyway. I'll ask at the box office about Bromptons.

Our group ranged in age from 5 to 85 and included one avowed Star Wars hater (age 9). And we all had a blast :)

Hadn't been to the Dominion before. The reclining chairs are amazing. And a pint of Dechars most pleasant.

To widen the conversation slightly, both Omni Vue and Ocean Terminal Vue have sheffield racks outside. The latter ever-so-slightly sheltered if the wind is in your favour.

Filmhouse has sheffield racks across the road (outside Nandos) and lots of railings nearby. Including at the pedestrian island: I have never yet been so stuck for locking places as to take my bike halfway across the road and shackle it up. Is this for people who can't decide which side of the road they want to be on?

I parked up outfront of the Cameo on Monday lunchtime (Bridge of Spies - classic Spielberg good man against the system stuff, with just enough Coen Bros' zing in the script). Very convenient, but two of the possible spaces were unnecessarily occupied by a defunct flat tyred bike and a bike that was advertising the presence of Biketrax (thanks for your consideration, Biketrax).

Cineworld has a reasonable number of slightly unusual bike racks just outside but I have always just walked there. My friends who do cycle there tend to lock their bikes to the railings opposite the bike racks for some reason; possibly due to greater visibility and to avoid rack damage risks.
