I was on the 1750 service from GLQLL via Bathgate, which was less than 50% full. No queues at station either, just walked straight onto platform.

If you bag up the bike or have a folding one in bag use Citylink (roughly 1h 20 min, but can be faster outside peak hours)- cheaper too, and every 15 min during day last coach 23.59 (for technical reasons) first coach c.04.00 (can also use AIR to EDI)

Does anyone know which end of platform 1 at Livingston North I need to be to get a bike on?

The trains don't stay in a fixed direction so either end.
The North Berwick trains have triangles above the cab windows marking the end closest to the bikes. Maybe the Livi trains are the same (I'm not sure)

Hmm. OK. Just there's another person with a bike here who reached the platform after me but who went decisively to the west end.
It was at the back/west, but the other person was waiting too far back so I got to the door first, though there were no bikes yet on.

You can put a bike anywhere on the Livi North trains, and people do. There were probably at least half a dozen on the train I got back to Edinburgh this evening, and that's totally normal.

Work, originally expected to begin in late 2016, had been rescheduled to the second quarter of 2017. But the required Government authorisations, knows as TAWS orders, are currently eight months delayed.
