I see the EEN tinfoil hat brigade is out in force...

"One question this paper should be making - Is Schwarzenegger being paid by the council (i.e. us) to promote the cycling agenda? I presume he's not doing this photo op for free, when he's charging £1500 a pop to have your tea with him."

Off to see him tonight. I hope he makes his grand entrance on a bike! :D

    Wow, that's nuts!

A friend of mine is also going and is such a fan that he was seriously considering paying the extra grand to get a personal audience with him. Don't know if he did in the end.

    Enjoy!

One of our pals has paid for the photo upgrade... The bargain price of £545. I love Arnie and would love to meet him, but not at the cost of a lovely bike, haha! :)

Reports that Arnie has been spotted this morning riding down Dalry Road to Princes St with a group of kids.

Nice to see him in normal clothes without a helmet. Could we not have found him a bike that fits? Looks a bit small to me!

    Really wish I'd seen him!

Ah, the sight of Arnold Schwarzenegger mano a mano with a string of buses on Lothian Road will keep my heart warm for some time to come..

I've seen people cycle head to head before to traffic on cycle lanes - but never on a bus lane (!)

Entertaining as it is to us, Edinburgh looks like a hellish place to be on a bike. Buses, tram lines, taxis. Noise and air pollution.
In fact it's so chaotic that his error probably only increased risk by 1 or 2% and might even have been safer than going to correct side. Most vehicles will not run over you if you are facing them. Being Arnie would help of course!

Mr Shwarzenegger was just trying to do a right turn which would be normal for citizens of any other city. R/H turn here is banned I think? Another legacy of TiE.

Oh yes, I think you are right. I just assumed that after he got off the bike for a chat/photo op he automatically set off on the right hand side of the road.

Its unlawful, but often ignored by regular cyclists, due to the idiocy of its application.

Big up the Total Recall main man !

Chuck Norris was the original invitee but he bottled out of riding through Haymarket.

Arnie is great, but I saw a real live superhero this evening. Probably the greatest thing I've seen in my life: I felt like a 10 year old kid and wanted to punch the air when he finished.

When I grow up I want to be Chris Hadfield.

In the summer we saw a couple of riders cycling aling the train platforms in Eindhoven. This is definately a No No in the UK. Thinking back, The Netherlands is such a common sense country, where people are trusted to do the right thing rather than being told what we can not do because it is not 'Elf n Safely'.

...other than the mopeds nipping about in pedestrian areas...

i find it tricky to adapt to that, first thing in the morning

yet the dutch admirably take it all in their stride

I reckon the Munich coppers just wanted his autograph, and a selfie with him.

Re: Netherlands, that will be the famous Dutch pragmatism, which leads them to tolerate all kinds of stuff people in other countries frown upon (marijuana and prostitution being the most famous examples).

I am one of the few cyclists that doesn't ride their bicycle on Livingston North station platform. I know you are not supposed to, but "everyone" does...
