"To the woman who passes me at the roadworks at Haymarket Yards every day and insists on calling out 'bicycles dismount' just as I'm about to dismount, get a life!
PM, Edinburgh"
From today's Metro.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 14years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

From today's Metro.
I wonder how many people do dismount here.
There is now a through route via the station car park.
Not sure where you mean, but of course unless it involves a pavement the 'Cyclists Dismount' signs are purely advisory.
Actually, someone should also point out to the woman doing the shouting that it is indeed the Cyclists who dismount, unless the bikes are riding ont he back of some very confused people.
Even I (known fondly as 'the traffic warden' to my family), think this is a bit over the top. Perhaps the most charitable interpretation is that she has had experience of cyclists riding into her as she dismounts, or having people swerve, cursing around her?
I had wondered if PM might be someone on here, although I suppose they'd come here to vent their frustration rather than SMS the Metro.
There's an appalling, non-standard, Cyclists Dismount sign on Canaan Lane at the moment. It's there solely so workies can park their vehicles in the bike lane.
It was there when I ignored it this morning, but by the time I returned 20 minutes later, someone had moved it out of the bike lane and leant it against a traffic island with text hidden.
I wish I'd thought of that: the sign is wrong on so many levels.
...and there's never ever a "Cyclists Remount" sign?!?!
Does it apply going in opposite direction? Is there a sign for drivers to stop, get out and push?
When I see signs like this. I have been known to stop, jump off the bike, stretch legs, have a drink and then hop back on again - I have thus "complied" with the sign....
