Six feet across by two feet deep. Council shut, so police informed before it injured someone. Three buses drove through it whilst I was calling it in, before it caught a van.

I have just seen this and it seems to have deteriorated greatly since that photo was taken.

When I say "pothole" I mean the type of thing that people go down dressed in a wetsuit and on the end of a rope.

There are a couple of cones around it but they will likely get knocked down or blown over.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES RIDE NEAR THIS.

Hopefulyl the cones are nice big heavy ones which can resist the wind. Couldn't see any nearby cones to temporarily stick in it last night. There were some plastic barriers not protecting a hole in front of a shop nearby but they were all fastened together so I couldn't drag a couple over.

It was already too big for a standard Big Metal Plate when I left it to the police last night.

A few buses are being diverted round it:

Seeing as several of their vehicles hit/worsened it or purposefully avoided it I've emailed Lothian Buses asking them to commend any driver who bothered to report it or frown sternly at any who took no action.

There are some real monsters out there at the moment. I mean Leith Walk is always a total moonscape but there's nonsense like this cropping up all over the city.

Cadzow Place is beginning to fall apart, it was always bad bus in last few days the existing bus-excavated craters have really started to deteriorate. I'm never passing in the daylight to get pictures of them to report, so will try on the weekend during the day

Whole series of nasty sharp-edged holes on Forrest Road and down towards George IV Bridge recently. Have had some hairy moments learning where they all are - wouldn't like to ride that after dark if I didn't know what to expect.

There's a massive one developing on the inside lane of Cortsorphine Road (eastbound) near the entrance to the Spire hospital.

  9. Massive one in the lane that turns off down Leith Street at the east end of Princes St, in front of the Wellington statue. Bus I was on last night hit it and I nearly bit through my tongue (I was licking my dry lips at the time!).

@threefromleith: Aye, managed to avoid the Princes Street one yesterday just because the light was red at the statue crossing so I had a minute to stare deeply into the abyss before going past it. If I'd gone in I am not sure the bus behind me would have time to stop though.

The rest of Princes Street quite nice at that time of night and generally smooth. Roads without traffic, eh?

That top-of-Leith-Street one has returned very quickly since the recent patching, unless they didn't do that bit? I've barely gone that way since the Leith Street contraflow started up last year.
FixMyStreeted the one in the right-hand southbound lane of Leith Walk as you pass the Annandale/Montgomery junction heading up to Elm Row.

Regarding the top of Leith Street one. I photoed it initially in 2014 and have reported is many times since. It was supposed to have been resurfaced about September last year when most of the junction was fixed. It doesn't look like it was touched.

On Sunday it was repatched with hot tarmac and tamped in to place with a whacker. Before the CEC lorry had left it was already being chewed up.

Lesly Hinds has said the junction is due to be resurfaced "this year"

I had a look on my way home and didn't spot it. While I was ruminating on that fact I nearly dropped my front wheel into a neatly oval pothole with sharp edges, in the vicinity of Belmont Crescent.

Hasn't that one been appearing then getting filled in for years?

Might not be where I'm thinking, but the bit where the road bends towards where the bridge club is?

I noticed that they "fixed" the craters at the junction of East Preston Street and Dalkeith Road. Looks like a token effort, doubt it will last.

The road quality in Edinburgh is abominable and my impression is that it has nosedived over the last couple of years.
