@piosad
They appear to think that congestion and pollution can be sorted primarily by 'carrot' measures such as more park and ride and improved 'access to' bus/rail/bike/walk; and a reluctance to adopt much in terms of 'stick' measures, particularly for car-owners who live in the city. Seems pretty optimistic to me!!

"Am I alone in finding bullet points two and six somewhat, eh, contradictory?"
I think there's great irony (perhaps too kind a word) about the idea that they will try to stop cars coming into Edinburgh when the SG (SNP too) is responsible for the new Forth bridge and 'sorting out' Sheriffhall.
Of course all the existing/extra traffic will be enticed into the existing/extra PnRs.
"Seems pretty optimistic to me!!"
Quite.

17-year-old Labour activist Ben McKinlay says while there is a time and a place for constitutional debate we have to stop it dominating Scottish politics, and especially the upcoming local elections.

Looks like it didn't work.

Glasgow SNP manifesto makes lots of good noises, notably on 20mph, but has a 10% commitment to 'walking and cycling' . Cycling infra to be 'high-quality and safe', though how significant is the omission of the words 'main routes' and 'segregation'?

In the meantime our old friend Cllr Ross has penned this highly informative pitch for votes: http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/opinion/frank-ross-check-the-name-on-ballot-paper-when-you-vote-1-4414408

Yes, there seems to an election on (see also next post!) -
IF all parties mentioned have no separate legal entity/identity from IK one he has a (small) point.
Presumably Scottish Greens really are what they claim?

The outgoing Labour councillor accused the party of “hypocrisy”, saying they were supporting 20mph on roads in their own areas despite having publicly voiced opposition.

Conservative manifesto:
They're going to fix congestion by prioritising flow not speed, improving traffic light responsiveness, scrapping 20mph and scrapping extension of Sunday parking charges.
Posted 7 years ago # -
@Stickman, I found this lying around, appears to have fallen out of a sentence somewhere:
"not"
any idea where it's supposed to be?
Posted 7 years ago # -
prioritising flow not speed
by scrapping extension of Sunday parking charges (parked cars cause obstruction and significantly limit Sunday 'flow')
by increasing the speed limit (slower traffic 'flows' better)
by changing traffic lights (traffic sure can 'flow' better if you cut pedestrian phases)Posted 7 years ago # -
Says they are going to "undertake a review of the blanket policy".

Nothing about sheets or duvets.
Perhaps clever enough to not air their dirty laundry in public?

Really annoying that it's not a proper search/copyable PDF.
"
Work with the Scottish Government and transport bodies to find solutions for congestion on the City Bypass.

I'm assuming they will ignore/reject obvious solutions before they start.

Nice
All of them? In the next five years?

They seem to have found a photo of a mandatory painted-on cycle lane (top of "Transport" page).
Where is that? Is it even in Edinburgh?
Posted 7 years ago # -
It lists all the candidates, which is obviously a good idea - I don't know whether other parties are doing so in their manifestos.

Frank R bigging up the blut und boden nationalism in the council area with the lowest proportion of native Scots - way to go.

Good question.

Re phantom bike lane - seems to come from Shutterstock. In Leeds, natch :)

Nice find!
The wonders of the internet!
How long did it take?
Did you search 'photo of only known mandatory cycle lane?'
Posted 7 years ago # -
Well found.
This is an OSM-generated map of all cycle lanes in Edinburgh: http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/ojM
None of them are mandatory, to my knowledge.

I figured Mr Toad of Tory Hall would not go beyond page 1 of a Google Image search for "uk bike lane"
And sure enough...
