    We will make cycling and walking safer and continue to aim to meet the existing target of 10 per cent of journeys to be by bike by 2020. We are attracted to the idea of securing savings in the road-building budget each year to devote to cycling. We will:
    • Increase the share of the transport budget that is spent on cycling and active transport by adding £20 million of capital spending;
    • Support safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists, with more dedicated and segregated cycle lanes;
    • Encourage the extension of 20mph speeds in village, town and city centres;
    • Revise the current Cycling by Design guidelines to reflect international best practice and increase their authority to make them core national standards, ensuring safe provision for cyclists and pedestrians is built into the road system.

    Ignore the above - it's taken from last year's manifesto.

    Have the released this year's version and specifically the Edinburgh version?

    Right, this seems to be only mention of cycl -

    The condition of Scotland’s roads and streets is often lamentable. Potholes cause accidents to pedestrians and cyclists, rough roads destroy the comfort of bus and car journeys alike, while constant ad hoc road repair works are an inconvenience and a drag on the economy.

    Liberal Democrats will:

    • Commit new resources from within councils to make transport safer and tackle the chronically poor condition of local roads and pavements using the principle of right- first-time to improve the quality of repairs;

    So, all parties seem to care about potholes and pavements.

    I'm sure they always did to some extent, but I'll count this as important/'progress'.

    After the election might well be worth considering a 'delegation' to whoever is responsible for 'transport' and 'public realm' (may be the same person).

    I remember a conversation some years ago where a councillor said that Clarence wasn't 'fit for purpose'. I know there are people on here who use it, and others keener on various reporting apps - and also Twitter (different effectiveness with different Local Teams and @edinhelp). Would be good to get a coherent idea about the most effective way to get things done.

    Also the whole (HIGHLY successful) Gogar Station Road campaign highlighted issues about 'priorities' and campaigning strategies/effectiveness.

    I suspect it was one of the reasons Lesley Hinds became more sympathetic to 'cycling'.

    Edinburgh urgently needs councillors who can combine a commitment to action on day to day issues like waste collections, and footway repairs

    "

    So that's all(?) parties wanting better pavements.

    Hope it's first item on agenda of new Council!

    Other Green pledges include:

    Transforming city centre streets like the Royal Mile and George Street to make them priority places for pedestrians and cyclists.

    ...

    Committing to at least 10% of the transport spend being on cycling, with a renewed focus on delivery of joined up and dedicated cycle routes.

    "

    Tories said the last bit too!

    ("

    Link up current cycle paths across the city centre.

    The Walk Cycle Vote candidate finder is now updated with many more contact details for Edinburgh candidates http://walkcyclevote.scot/candidate-info/ (although the Lib Dems seem determined to make their candidates as un-contactable as possible without even local party facebook pages that we've been able to find)

    A real commitment to putting pedestrians and cyclists at the heart
    of the way places are designed and managed and to joining up travel routes across the city;

    ...

    We also recognise that stronger communities still need the council to get basic services right. We back more money for well-managed services which improve day to day life: streets free of litter and dog-fouling; bin collections which are on time; and well-maintained pavements, cycle-paths and roads.

    ...

    We can do this if Edinburgh redoubles its e orts to create safe and attractive routes for cyclists and walkers and also has expanded public transport which is safe, a ordable, frequent and easy to use.

    ...

    Review and set a target to signi cantly increase the current 58% share of people walking, cycling or using public transport to commute;

    ...

    Introduce a number of days where public transport, cycling and walking are given priority: for example, through working with employers or reward schemes and ticket incentive schemes, both generally and through Young Scot cards;

    ...

    Continue to spend at least 10% of the transport budget on cycling but set a clearer vision about the cycling transformation needed, including dedicated and joined-up routes, segregated cycle-ways, cycle-storage for tenements and on streets, a public bike hire scheme, and high- quality design for pedestrians and cyclists in new building and regeneration schemes;

    ...

    Greens have
    * Backed commitment to fund cycling at 10% of transport budget;
    * Called for years for extensive 20mph limits;
    * Campaigned for dedicated cycle-ways and better cycle storage;
    * Secured better pedestrian priority at temporary tra c lights;

    ...

    We want to see a healthy city which reduces the pressure on the NHS. We believe this can be done by making social care work better: providing decent pay and conditions for care workers; boosting local and voluntary organisations to provide care; and helping people to take more control of their own care. We also want to see a transformation in the local food economy and helping people make healthier choices. We believe access to green space and attractive walking and cycling routes will improve both physical and mental health. We want to see
    NHS, council and community services work together to provide local health centres where lots of di erent help is under one roof.

    ....

    Make it easier and more attractive for people to choose walking and cycling

    Mr Farron visited Edinburgh today as his party launched its city manifesto for the council elections next month.

    Joining the campaign trail by speaking to locals in the city’s Stockbridge area, he said the election drive is going “amazingly well” and he predicted gains for the Lib Dems across the country and particularly in Edinburgh.

    local government could begin to provide a basis for a politics that will finally carry us forward from this period of ill-tempered division in our national politics. It’s a slender hope, perhaps. But to read a document like the Green Party’s vision for Edinburgh - even if you disagree with every word of it - is to glimpse the kind of debate we should be having

    EDINBURGH Tories want to scrap plans to introduce new Sunday parking charges and suspend the remaining phases of the Capital’s 20mph rollout.

    The party also promised to reject the current business plan for extending the tram network as city Conservatives unveiled their council election manifesto.

    Scottish Labour campaign manager Alex Rowley today urged Scots to use their vote in the forthcoming council election, warning ‘the future of our local services is at stake’.

    "

    So it's about what councils do.

    Or is it?

    "

    Mr Rowley said voters face a choice between electing a local champion with Labour or an SNP councillor who will only care about another divisive independence referendum.

    "

    http://www.scottishlabour.org.uk/blog/entry/the-future-of-local-services-is-at-stake-rowley

    Whatever people think of Independence/IndyRef2/the SNP - or even the relative competence/progressiveness of Lab/SNP individuals/Group - in Edinburgh the parties have been working together to run CEC for the last five years (without too much concern about Scottish constitutional issues).

    There is a strong chance that an SNP/Lab coalition will replace a Lab/SNP one.

    Yesterday several Edinburgh Labour people were saying on Twitter 'read our Edinburgh manifesto'.

    It's likely that fewer people will have read it than watched the recent Scottish Labour PPB for the council elections .
