“Having spoken to senior councillors from other parties, the clear message is that they will not ‘do a deal’ or contemplate a coalition with Edinburgh Tories if Cllr Rose remains Conservative group leader.

    "

    Some degree of spin there.

I think both Lab and SNP have said 'no deal with Tories' (irrespective of leader).

Though the actual CEC result might change things.

I could not make up my mind how to vote nationally until read May warns voting for SNP will put Corbyn in into No 10, I had not thought of that tactical vote.

As we found out in the 2015 GE, it turns out it's voting for May [Cameron] that puts May [Cameron] in No. 10.

I eventually got all my candidates to respond to the WalkCycleVote asks, through a variety if polite asking and public embarassment, although the Conservative has responded this morning but won't tell me what he's said, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

Happy voting tomorrow everyone, make sure you do.
and remember to vote all the way down the list... that way you can truthfully tell them all that you voted for them ;-)

"and remember to vote all the way down the list..."

You don't have to, but this is a good reason to -

"that way you can truthfully tell them all that you voted for them"

Voting is straightforward - counting the votes is complex.

HankChief, I suspect you know the answers Mark gave:
No, not really, and I've missed the point.

I know there's no difference between leaving the last slot blank and putting a number 5 in it but I don't think I'll be voting all the way down my paper.

That way if the Tories somehow get power I can say I'm not a Turkey and I certainly didn't vote for Christmas.

I'm please to see the other 4 candidates for Drumbrae/Gyle have all put three yeses on their returns which makes it that little bit harder to choose an order.

If you're in an elect 4 out of 5 ward only your first vote matters

The 'loser' is the one with the least 1 votes and is thus eliminated after round 1.

So vote 1 for your top candidate and the other 4 votes are whatever

Down this neck of the woods it's much more important to vote all the way down as we are 4 out of 10. 1 is still the most important vote of all as picking up secondary preferences is useless if you're out of the game after round 1

For anyone who wants a succinct summary of how STV works, this was posted yesterday and is very good (if you can bear the forced jokes)

    https://youtu.be/NrNejaszSE4

Do double check if you have any past or present UKIP or other nasties standing, possibly disguised as independents. I'll be marking the Tories ahead of them here.

@acsimpson: it's remarkable how all the Conservatives believe that potholes are the main barrier to people walking more.

We have two torus out this way, one at beginning of ballot and one at the end. Their vote might get split. Though they have kept out of each it he's ay and campaign on a 1 -2 at Balerno end and 2-1 at the Juni green end which might work.

Candidate despite having some cclng connections is anti 20, anti segregation etc (when talking to drivers)

So I will cast multiple votes to try to stop Tories but at leas one will get in.

We also gave two SNP and one labour and one green and maybe liberal. Mabey four from seven.

Klaxon, Is that right. According to your video (and my understanding) anyone getting more than the required quota of votes has the surplus redistributed before any eliminations.

So say SNP poll 75 in the first round with 40% required to win everyone who voted SNP will have their next preference votes weighted and distributed amongst the other candidates before anyone is eliminated.

It might or might not make a difference but still worth voting all the way down to those you really don't want to see in the council.

@Klaxon, "Do double check if you have any past or present UKIP or other nasties standing, possibly disguised as independents. "

Indeed, we appear to have one "independent" who was a UKIP candidate in 2015 (hint: it''s NOT Harald Tobermann).

    Vote early, vote often, people!

OK CCE what's the answer -

    When is the count?

Asked Google all sorts of questions and can only find that it's Meadowbank (not Ingliston).

    This doesn't make sense -

Count's tomorrow - can't remember if they start in the morning or afternoon, but it's not overnight.

EDIT: @hank_chief - no surprise that the Conservative candidate wasn't willing to tell you his answers because they aren't "Yes". Some credit for still answering, I suppose.

I am still irked that there is no Green candidate in Liberton/Gilmerton. Are they so skint they can't afford the deposit? Don't need a leaflet, there's tonnes of green-tinged voters here.

acsimpson: You're right. Above quota excess transfers (if there are any) happen before eliminations. It's important and I missed it in a rush to concisely sum it up.

It's a good system that doesn't suit being summed very well.

    UPDATE

    (From an 'insider')

    "

Quite quickly tomorrow morning - machines start at 8.15, done in ward numerical order, two wards scanned at a time, then adjudication so wards will be called throughout the morning. The council says all 17 will be done by 2.30, I reckon earlier if no googlies.

    Result will be interesting there.

Wonder how many people wil vote 1,2 for SNP or Lab and then 3 for Green - and how that affects things.

Very weathered looking SNP chap hanging around outside Roseburn primary. He looked nice enough but didn't speak to me.

Surprisingly short list in Meadows/Morningside ward. One each of Labour, Green, SNP and Lib Dem and two tories.

At least I got the chance not to vote for Nick Cook - most satisfying (even though I imagine he will get in).

Having just realised I'm now in the same ward as the Roseburn debacle and with out reading through that thread is there any one who particularly stuck out as being just one above a kipper?
