Perhaps Jim Orr will stand as an independent next year? If not, I reckon the Edinburgh Greens would welcome a new member who is honest and ethical.

Going back through the archives about Jim Orr I found this little nugget:

    http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=12313#post-144017

Frank Ross cycles to the City Chambers every day?

I found this all a bit difficult to follow. Is this a moderately decent précis?

Someone in the SNP Council group said that money from the transport budget was being wrongly allocated to cycling. JO complained about this story, saying that the allocation to cycling was legitimate and indeed council policy. His SNP colleagues victimised him for this complaint, and for some other cycling related publicity. JO eventually resigned.

There also seems to be an allegation that 4 figure sums are being transferred to individuals but I can't work out what for and to whom?

Seems very dodgy and tends to turn me further from the SNP, as well as not looking good for the future of cycling infrastructure in Edinburgh.

This is the sort of stuff that goes on in Lanarkshire.

He perhaps 'should', though he would be unlikely to get elected.

"If not, I reckon the Edinburgh Greens would welcome a new member who is honest and ethical."

He shows remarkable loyalty to the SNP (which might not deserve it!) His personal ethics mean that he would find it difficult to consider another party.

Fascinating, if only 'we' had known some of the things that have now been made public!

It will be interesting to see how the (other) media deal with it...

Or Falkirk... (Well perhaps they are booking an Orange Walk as "active transport"?)

At the nub of this seems to sit Cllr. Cardownie who has since been displaced as leader of the SNP group. Despite the muck about his connections to the taxi / private hire trade that has followed Cardownie around he's the SNPs longest standing Edinburgh councillor (defected from Labour in 2005) so I assume still holds some sway in the party.

Neither article mentions the internal disputes, just the cash payment.

Shame it's been treated like that. The undermining of the cycling policy is a much more interesting story than the mishandling of not very much money.

Speaking to the Herald, Cardownie confirmed giving Orr £1,500.

“I was helping a colleague who had lost his SRA. It was a genuine attempt to help Jim Orr. He was one and a half short.”

    Of course.

Presume this won't get resolved before the election, but local government finance (and possible reorganisation) will affect the next CEC term (not just for cycling).

Spokes is pressing for a manifesto commitment from all parties to maintain a 10% budget for cycling. Change requires funding. #spokesmtg

    "

I'm sure many people will be asking their councillors if they support maintaining the 10% in Edinburgh.

Adam McVey said today at the Spokes Bike Breakfast that the manifesto process is starting now and any Edinburgh SNP member can be involved.

The "pizza group" mentioned frequently in the posts also seem to have immunity from parking regulations.

Well done to Jim Orr for whistleblowing the corruption and cronyism within CEC.

    I especially 'liked' this:

The regulatory convener is one of the most skilled conveners in the SNP group. But he is also oddly loyal to the Depute Provost as evidenced by the highly unusual job swap that they tried and failed to organise together. It’s hard to imagine such things happening in parliament, except perhaps this kind of [Russian] parliament.

Well done Cllr Orr - pity we don't have a local newspaper that could look into these things.
