Just a fraction of the dress-code criticism most women experience in their lives...

Spot on from Cllr McVey. Looking at the original photo and thinking "There aren't enough people wearing ties!" is quite strange as well.

“I have found in my experience that those that are casual of dress are casual of mind.”

That says more about the writer's (lack of) experience than anything else. Small mindedism

    "Small mindedism"

Indeed, what a person wears to their work has no bearing on their ability, or productivity.

Definitely on trend not to wear tie. Not worn one for work in a long time, never remarked upon.

Manmy years ago when Mrs G worked for Scot Gov she had to send a member of staff home as he only had two buttons left on his shirt. In this instance the casual external appearance (or more accurately vagrant appearance) did mirror the inner life.

Lesley MacInnes saying the right things:

    http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/things-will-be-different-with-tram-project-this-time-says-new-transport-convener-1-4527798

Another item high on the agenda is parking, while cycling infrastructure and encouraging the use of active transport are also priorities.

It is the latter which Cllr Macinnes sees as one of her biggest challenges and something she is keen to pursue.

“If we can get more people making their way to work, to leisure, using those methods of bike, walking [and] all the methods of active travel, it will make an enormous difference to our city”, she said.

    Cllr Scott Arthur:

Quite excited about being Labour's nominee as the Edinburgh Cycle Champion. I'll never be a Champion Cyclist, but I could be Cycle Champion.

Some potential progress as Nick Cook goes bike shopping:

    @CllrNickCook

Went bike shopping last weekend...so many options to choose from! City well served by bikes shops & knowledge, that's for sure

    http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/15611529.New_councillor_expresses__certain_disappointment_at_the_reality_of_council_life_

While she said the party had made progress on issues such as the introduction of low emission zones and rent pressure zones, where rent increases are limited, she conceded there were challenges from local authority budget cuts and the "relentless frustration of dealing with what only can be described as systemic apathy".

I have staggered from council meetings, dizzy and reeling from the scent of testosterone and seething ambition. And I have been frustrated by the pervasive excuses that are designed halt progress and rendered absolutely catatonic by relentless and really, really tedious mansplaining

Loved also the green councillors description of the cit chambers intricately carved wooden doors being a portal back to 1977. Also her encounters with egos so huge they needed a private office.

She has an excellent turn of phrase.

    “back to 1977”

That’ll be the year Spokes started.

    It’s a conspiracy.

Just in case the article didn't show or describe this, Councillor Susan Rae was wearing a t-shirt with the slogan "RAGE" on it when she addressed the SGP Conference.

I wonder how the suggestions of increasing parking permit costs and raising money by enforcing bus lane restrictions (and other transport policies) will go down?

I'm more concerned about cuts to libraries and the euphemistic "efficiency savings" in early years and disability day services.

See here for full list of "savings": http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/edinburgh-council-to-charge-for-garden-waste-collection-1-4595730

"Stop spending money on meaningless 20mph zones and cycle routes."

Surprisingly, there was more of a reaction to the garden waste bin collections than anything as reported in this article at least.

One senior council source described the coalition as “dysfunctional at the moment”.

The source continued: “The budget is what will make or break the coalition.

While I see this woman's point about how brown bin collections will work alongside communal gardens she does seem to have more bees in her bonnet than her garden.

Mostly it's a rant about students but she couldn't resist throwing in this non sequitur:
    "And we pay for parking."

Good for Cllr Brown. Hope it works well for him, and more councillors cycling can only be a good thing.

Good work, @Harts, and any others who have helped persuade Cllr Brown back onto a bike.

It looks like Cllr Brown is getting lots of use out of the bike: he's been posting about it every day.

My local LibDem councillor using her time wisely:

Will the Cycling Champion use his influence with Spokes to encourage them to speak out against inconsiderate or illegal behaviour by cyclists?

Will the Transport Convener use her influence with the AA to encourage them to speak out against inconsiderate or illegal behaviour by motorists?

Does that sound ridiculous? Yep, thought so

Yeah, everybody knows you talk to the Chief Cyclist Bradley Wiggins or the Chief Driver Lewis Hamilton respectively.
