I cycled down Lothian Road yesterday and I'm not sure it would have been safe on a bike without suspension. The combination of the craters and the traffic was nerve-wracking.

Ian Whyte thinks potholes are more dangerous to cyclists and pedestrians than cars.
This made me really angry. Clearly potholes are dangerous to cyclists, but what makes them seriously dangerous is that they increase the risk of a collision involving a vehicle.
But pedestrians? I don't think I've ever felt endangered by a pothole as a pedestrian. Am I completely missing something?
They also ignore the substantial long term savings that would be made by shifting modal share from cars to bikes. Road damage apparently scales as the fourth power of weight per axle, so that even an unladen Citroen 2CV causes ~1000 times as much damage to the road than me on my bike. Removing 10% of car journeys, and replacing them with bike journeys, would save so much money!

His twitter backdrop used to be a picture of him draped coquettishly across the bonnet of a Lamborghini. Sadly no longer as it very much gave the right impression of him - ostentatious, unsustainable and entirely inappropriate for transport in Edinburgh.

Cllr Barrie’s resignation means the minority SNP-Labour administration now has just 29 of the 63 seats on the council.
And it leaves the Tories as the biggest party, with 18 seats to the SNP’s 17, though there is little prospect of any change of administration since other parties have indicated they will not go into coalition with the Conservatives.

Devastated to say that my friend, mentor and predecessor as Almond Ward councillor, George Grubb sadly passed away over the weekend.He was the kindest, gentlest and most generous of people. He was nothing short of an inspiration to me. I will miss him so much.

We should teach the importance of punctuation using examples from news article titles being turned into URLs.

"AN Edinburgh Tory councillor has resigned from the party, saying the UK government’s policies on disability issues and social justice are “incompatible with her beliefs and conscience”.
Ashley Graczyk, who was elected to represent Sighthill/Gorgie at last year’s local elections, said she would now sit as an independent councillor."

@Stickman
I was a UKIP MEP for a while before I cottoned on. It happens.

@Stickman I met Ashley at the Edinburgh Green Councillors' party just before Christmas. She was very nice and I was a little bemused to find out that she was a Tory. Excellent.
@IWRATS really?

@IWRATS really?
I always suspected :D

To suggest that I was never a UKIP MEP is to engage in the wildest reaches of conspiracy theory and fake news. However those days are happily behind me and I have moved on with my life and I invite others not to dwell on what has become for me a sordid and regrettable period.

If it isn't dwelling. Was it before or after encountering the vat of quicksilver?

@acsimpson
You've now got me composing my own Tears in the rain monologue with stuff that I actually have seen.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. A bucket of mercury. Satan in the form of a dog-gorilla slouching round Samson's Ribs. I watched tunable dye lasers scan their range in the dark off West Mains Road. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
I think that might require its own thread.Posted 6 years ago # -
Rutger Hauer pops up occasionally in this forum. Roy Batty's speech surely from the typewriter of PKD?
Fair play to Rutger (I have clicked on the link now). Rutger would I think also have cut the white dove bit.

Alex Cole-Hamilton on Twitter:
"Hearing Cllr Clare Bridgman of Drumbrae/Gyle ward in my constituency has resigned from @theSNP and will sit as an independent. Will make it all the harder for the SNP to govern the city.
Major blow for @EdinburghGreens as they lose one of their two places on every committee on @Edinburgh_CC. Independent’s group now sufficiently large to have representation on each."

Interesting tweet from Cllr Webber coming 1 hour after using cycling as an example of a vanity project

@hankchief, maybe she is conflicted or has a very bad memory?
I cycled by Crazy Jim who is a Juni Green Tory today. I called out Vote Labour towards him, he was a little confused.

Edinburgh has the lowest per capital funding from the SG in Scotland. Cllr Munro tells the council's Governance, Risk and Best Value Committee that Edinburgh is "doomed" unless the way local government is financed. He adds: "We are at breaking point as a city and as a council".
