No need. Plenty of others have made that comment, including 1 of the 2 Edinburgh anti cycling trolls.
I did however offer to show him some of the local ward issues - no response yet...
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Anti-cycling pro-mudguard troll? Ah, the internut.
Presumably an anti-cycling troll will also be anti a lot of other stuff that he or she also trolls?
Listening to various blue Nile tracks on YouTube (despite having the albums) and same guy comes into the comments on every single track to mention how depressing he finds the music. Maybe he just came across one track and thought maybe the others will be different?
Rumours on twitter (so pinch of salt, etc.) that Marion Donaldson, Lab councillor for Leith Walk, has resigned.

EDIT: Seems to be true: https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/edinburgh-labour-councillor-quits-amid-reports-of-internal-party-tensions-1-4863843
Green women councillors: “please don’t talk over us when we are speaking in meetings”
Tory men councillors; “quiet, the men are talking”

Latest hypocritical local politician witterings:
"I’m a reasonable person and I accept that young children should not be forced to cycle on roads, and I and others have been known to cycle (slowly) on the pavement on the Queensferry Road at rush hour when there are no pedestrians."
"Where a pavement is not officially designated as for shared use it should be the preserve of pedestrians, and cyclists should dismount if they want to use it."
Tube.
So, the Lib Dems want to help protect pedestrians and get cyclists off the pavement. Yet opposed lowering the default speed limit in built-up areas to 20mph.
There is a self-evident progression in everyone's life from push-chair to pedestrian to bus user to driver and then to passenger.
The bicycle has no place in the naturally ordained hierarchy of urban movement.
Robert needs to get off his chair and go for a walk around his constituency. The paths around East Craigs are cracked and broken with roots making them impassable to all but the most determined push chair users. There are no dropped kerbs other than where driveways happen to line up with paths and yet he thinks it appropriate to write: "Across the country numerous Liberal politicians have campaigned to get broken pavements fixed, uneven pavements sorted and kerbs lowered"
Am I to assume he isn't one of that number.
He presumably also hasn't left his constituency via the pedestrian crossings of Barnton Junction either. Haymarket junction has nothing on the 6 phases required to safely cross from East Craigs to the Barnton shops.
He presumably also isn't aware that "dog walkers, with dogs which veer unpredictably to the next interesting scent" are failing in their responsibility to keep their dogs under control. Would he be advocating that his precious motor vehicles should slow down to walking pace whenever a dog is nearby?
He returns to sense at the end though "It’s great that so many people are getting out of their cars and walking or cycling. Let’s remember we are all on the same side and make a little space for each other." Although how that mixes with militancy I'm not sure.
That was what got my goat. 30 years a councillor (according to his page on the LD website), part of several past administrations and a ex-Finance Convenor. If active travel is in a state in Edinburgh (and it is), he need look no further than his own mirror to find someone to blame.
Yes, IIRC he is the longest serving member of the current council. Prior to the last election he was on the transport committee.
Some changes to the Transport Committee:
Conservatives replace Graham Bruce with Stephanie Smith (who has described cycling projects as “vanity projects”)
Greens replace Chas Booth with Claire Miller
Lib Dems replace Gillian Gloyer with Kevin Lang
Where was that announced?
In the meeting papers for today’s council meeting.
Ta. Found it now, was looking in the wrong document.
Greens also replacing Steve Burgess with Gavin Corbett.

Cllr Derek Howie has left the SNP.
"Cllr Howie says he has been unable to convince colleagues “of the necessity to alter their approach to policy… to help compensate for the deficits experienced by the 20 per cent of the population who have a disability.”"
Bloody Hell. I know Derek (and Lloyd). That party is in real trouble if people like Derek are leaving.
Just had a wee chat with Mr Howie. He's in talks to join a party more in line with his social concerns and intending to see out his mandate. He is a good and gentle man.
Would be interested in whether there was a particular issue which was causing friction, but I'd perhaps be better asking him myself.
Disability as a fundamental aspect to all policy decisions he said. Could not persuade people to build that into the standard processes, leading to it only being considered as an add-on.

While he will continue to be an independent councillor he has announced his intentions of aligning himself with the Green group on the council. He has also meantime joined the Green Party.Cllr Howie said: “I’m looking forward to working more closely with my new Scottish Green colleagues on areas of common interest such as inclusion, high quality public services and use of public space. I recognise that being originally elected from another political party means that my relationship with those new colleagues will be different. But nevertheless I can see a lot of overlap in our areas of interest.
@Stickman
Just got an e-mail off the man himself but you were quicker....
Interesting.
Obviously ‘personal choice’, but presumably there are other people in the SNP (not just in Edinburgh) unhappy with the disconnect between ‘greener/smarter/etc’ and ‘business as usual’/‘more roads’.
@chdot
That isn't the principal division in that party at the moment. Battle lines are being drawn up on another hill.
No doubt.
Not anticipating any sort of mass defection, just suggesting there must be others more in tune with Green ideas than current SNP concerns.

Can someone let me know what that is?
