I usually do my own bike repairs, however can anyone recommend any Edinburgh bike shops they have had a good experience with that will provide a quote for repairs. My commuter was on the receiving end of a driver who suddenly reversed into me as I moved to overtake with the result the bike partially ended up under the car.

Aside from the obvious broken, bent bits and rims no longer true, I also need a judgement on the frame which now has the rear wheel lining up slightly off centre.

I'm fine BTW and seem to have escaped with no injury.

Well you know all the advise on here about taking care (and checking in with a lawyer.)

Depends where you live. The Bicycle Works and The Cycle Service both v good round my way.

Glad you're OK. As Nelly says it depends on location. West of tow. Has Hart's Cyclery on St Johns Road

Glad to hear you are ok, insurance? I would still get cycle law involved if it is. Many reasonable drivers who admit guilt baulk at the cost of bike repairs when given the bill? Also might be a new bike needed.?

Cycle Service gave me one "frame is dead - equivalent replacement costs this much" quote and the Bicycle Works another when my rear triangle was killed. Apprise your driver that bicycle shops charge money for insurance-replacement quotes and that this cost will be added to the overall bill with which they are presented.

    West - Hart's
    South - Bike Works
    East - Eastside Bikes
Far East - Ace in Musselburgh

You will probably want >1 quote as many will think you are pulling a fast one when they see the actual cost!

+1 for Hart's, also a shout out for Freewheelin Cycles on Slateford Road.

@davey2wheels: Sorry to hear about the accident! I had a similar situation recently - got great support in the form of repairs and a quote from Matt in Just Bike Repairs in Juniper Green - he gets my recommendation!

Unless this is a classic bike frame with some value it will be of the order BER as even pulling a frame back in to shape may hide damage which compromises the frame strength, immediately or in the longer term.

So scrap the frame and parts that are also BER and you may even find that the cost of labour to salvage and transfer the remaining bits makes buying a complete bike cheaper - and that's what the insurer's will pay for.
