Ladies Road Bike Recommendations Needed

    Got asked by a friend to help out finding a bike she needs for doing an Ironman next year (she's insane, takes on these challenges, and somehow does really well in them despite, by her own admission, not really having a clue when it comes to distances and training and so on).

    Anyway, budget is tight. Sub £400 preferably, but could squeeze it up to £500...

    I've been looking most particularly at 2010 models that might be replaced soon and so are being sold off, but thought I'd fall back on the knowledge of the forum since this isn't really my area!

    Shouldn't that be Ironwoman??

    Don't expect it would be carbonfibrewoman on that budget.

    No, indeed not. Lot of climbing on the 56 mile route as well, so I think something with a triple would be good (had looked at Raleigh, they DO have something with a compact double which might suit AND fits into budget).

    54cm Bianchi Via Nirone with Ksyrium Elites/Dura Ace/Ultegra in yesterday's Cycling Weekly. £450 ono (Devon number 01626 8666561). S/H might be the best option.

    I would imagine a small gents frame would do the job.

    I'll ask some questions to canvas opinion on tomorrow's ERC ride - usually a good turn out of ladies in lycra!

    Has she tried the Tri Centre? I think their bottom end bikes start around £500, not that you would know it from looking in the window...
