My front brake and/or shifter seemed odd this morning on the way in. Shifter is 10 speed Shimano 105. Braking seemed weak, and it was as though the lever was pulled over to the right, or not pulled over to the left (so angled outwards more than usual). Is the cable finished?

Actually, pretty sure the lever position is fine, just that the lever was sticking slightly when pulled. Braking feels spongey/weak though

Question; is the lever not returning in a fore/aft position from braking, or a left/right position from shifting?
If it's the former, it could be crud between the cable and the outer that's worked its way in over winter. carefully spray a bit of WD40 up there and work the cable back and forth.
Check all the obvious stuff like the quick release on the brake isn't up, that the clamping bolt isn't loose and the cable is beginning to pull through, that the brake blocks haven't worn so much that they're now not aligning nicely on the rim when you pull on the brakes. Check that the brake block surface isn't gubbed up with road grease / tyre rubber / shards of metal from the rim. File the block surface down with some coarse sandpaper. Check to see that the shifter is tightly clamped down to the bar and isn't sliding slightly under the force of braking/shifting.
There could of course be a fault or obstruction got into the shifter that's stopping the brake lever returning to its original position, but I don't advice poking around inside an integrated shifter, you'll really wish you hadn't when you try and put it all back together again and realise you don't have 6 hands.
