So after getting home last night, I discovered that the nut on the end of the hitch cotter pin had loosened itself off and gone missing. It's a long shot but does anyone have a spare plastic nut which the hitch pin screws into which they'd be willing to sell?

    Should be a normal/standard thread.

Get 2 nuts and two spanners and lock them together.

yup that'd work - or you might be lucky and find a domed nut that fits - it's bound to be metric so M5, M6 or whatever. I have a bag of such things if you want to raid it... (although possibly not a domed one)

or if you need to be able to hand tighten and remove by hand, what about a M4/M5/M6 wing nut? Find out the thread and someone might have one - if not ebay sell them singly...

I have some possibly M4 and definitely M5 wingnuts lying around.

Wingnuts! Sometimes the obvious answer is too obvious to think. Thanks for your help, people. I'll be off to B&Q Saturday. Cheers all.
